The current situation is representative of the friction that exists between the People of Wake and the Bureaucrats. In this particular case it is universally abhorrent to cut resources from those kids that need it most in order to save money on the budget. When it comes to a decision so clearly misguided, it causes the Community to call into question the decision-makers priority system. I understand our state’s national ranking as it relates to funding education and I hope we invest to ensure North Carolinians have a bright future in a rapidly changing world. From my limited perspective, the 13.5k per child that Wake spends or 2.3 billion annually is a lot of money. The priorities seem straightforward. Who has the greatest impact on educating our kids? Top priority should be our teachers who we should pay them well and we should expect results. Next we have to pay for operations staff (bus drivers mechanics technicians, cafeteria) 3rd priority is supplies. Whatever is left over after paying for the top 3 priorities, pays for everything else including the bureaucrats. If it is not enough, the Schools need to make their case to the commissioners. Seems straightforward but the system is a total black box. The education conversation spends very little time on what we need to do to improve our results so that we produce citizens prepared to pursue their best in our society. I don’t see how this logic is partisan either as it seems like common sense. Bur common sense would tell you not to cut resources from the kids that need it most.

Good for you.” The phrase “more advanced” never appears either. Whether you like Tucker Carlson or not, judge what he actually said.
