Our key message from Action Days is resonating on Capitol Hill: Aircraft carriers are indispensable. To sustain them, the industrial base that builds and maintains these vital national assets requires a strong, steady, and predictable demand signal. This was powerfully affirmed by Representative Trent Kelly during the inaugural hearing for the National Commission on the Future of the Navy, where he stressed the continued relevance of aircraft carriers in today's global environment: “People will say aircraft carriers are a thing of the past, and they're wrong. I think they're pretty relevant in the Gulf right now. I think they were pretty relevant off the coast of South America earlier. Our carriers provide us airfields when no one will give us access to their airfields.” This support underscores the critical need for stable investment in our naval capabilities and the industrial base that sustains them.
