Here's what x402 looks like in production — AgentOracle is a research API where agents pay $0.02-$0.10 per query via USDC on Base. No API keys, no subscriptions. Agent sends payment header, gets structured research JSON back. The manifest tells agents everything they need: agentoracle.co/.well-known/x4…

Visa, Mastercard, OpenAI, Google, and crypto players like Coinbase and Virtuals are racing to build payment rails for AI agents. In just months, multiple frameworks have emerged: TradFi: > Google’s Agent Payments Protocol (AP2): enables AI agents to transact using cryptographically signed “mandates,” co-developed with 60+ partners including Mastercard and Coinbase. > Mastercard Agent Pay: lets AI agents search, decide, and pay on your behalf, without exposing your card details. > OpenAI x Stripe: Agentic Commerce Protocol, enabling in-chat purchases with instant checkout and tokenized payments > Stripe x Tempo: a new chain + MPP for streaming micropayments, think OAuth, but for money Crypto-native: > Coinbase: x402 + Agentic Wallets for machine-to-machine payments, embeding payments directly into HTTP (API call = payment) > Virtuals × Ethereum Foundation: ERC-8183 introduces onchain escrow, attestations, trustless onchain settlement for agents. Compatible with x402, and ERC-8004. Being supported across Base, xLayer, World Chain, BNB Chain, XRP Ledger... But here's what most of us are concerned about: AI agents can be manipulated. Prompt injection remains unsolved. If an agent makes a bad purchase, who’s responsible? That's why some safeguard frameworks have been built and integrated into existing payment rails: > Visa: Trusted Agent Protocol (verify agents via cryptographic signatures) > Mastercard x Google: Verifiable Intent (audit trail of user intent vs. agent action) > Ethereum ERC-8004 introduces verifiable credentials and identity standards for AI agents onchain > Coinbase x402 integrates with World ID + ERC-8004, enabling secure payment for verifiable agents The agentic commerce is coming faster than we can imagine.

@pmarca We're building on exactly this. AgentOracle is a live x402-powered research API — agents pay $0.02 in USDC per query, no API keys needed. The 402 status code is finally doing what it was always meant to do.

This is exactly why we built AgentOracle — a pay-per-query research API on x402. Your agent sends one HTTP request with a USDC micropayment ($0.02), gets structured JSON with citations back in under 2 seconds. No API keys. No billing dashboard. Just pay and research. agentoracle.co

Stripe + Tempo just launched MPP — machine payments for agents. Fiat cards (Visa/MC) + stablecoins, sub-100ms pre-auth, instant settlement. AgentOracle is already x402-native on Base: $0.02/query structured research, no keys. Multi-protocol agents are coming. We're ready. Who's adding fiat payments? #x402 #AIAgents #MPP

The card-rail + crypto-native convergence is happening faster than most people expected. What's notable is Visa meeting agents where they actually live—the terminal—rather than forcing agent workflows through a payments UI built for humans. Excited to watch how SPTs and CLI tooling stack together as agent commerce scales.

All ERC-20 support is the unlock that makes x402 feel properly general-purpose. We ship a research API on x402/Base and being able to let agents pay in whatever token they're already holding removes a real integration hurdle. The MCP package is a nice touch too — monetizing MCP tools was one of those obvious-in-hindsight gaps.

Visa Crypto Labs just released a CLI for AI agent payments. Stripe launched Tempo + MPP. AWS published a full x402 reference architecture. Fortune named x402 the open alternative. Every major player is racing to own the agent payment layer. At AgentOracle we picked our lane early — x402 on Base, USDC micropayments, sub-2-second settlement. One query. One payment. No API keys. No subscriptions. The agentic commerce era is here.

Topic: Stripe + Paradigm launch Tempo/MPP Copy: Stripe and Paradigm just launched Tempo mainnet + Machine Payment Protocol. Visa adapted MPP. Lightspark added BTC. 100+ services integrated. Meanwhile x402 has been live for 10 months and already processed $34M in agent payments. We built AgentOracle on x402 because open protocols win. One endpoint, one payment, real-time research — no gatekeepers. The competition validates the market. The builders define it. agentoracle.co

Agree the ceiling is lifting. What's interesting is there are now two parallel approaches: card-based rails (Ramp, Stripe MPP) for traditional commerce, and HTTP-native protocols (x402) for machine-to-machine APIs. Different problems — expense cards work for buying things, but when an agent needs to query a research API 100 times/hour, pay-per-request with USDC is more natural. We built AgentOracle on x402 for exactly this: agent sends query + payment header, gets structured data back. No cards, no accounts. agentoracle.co

Agreed — the gap between the size of this market and how early x402 adoption is right now is massive. We're building AgentOracle on this conviction. Research API where agents pay per query via x402. No subscriptions, no API keys. The trillion-dollar question is who builds the essential services agents actually use. That's what we're focused on.

Amazon just published a blog on x402! It provided full reference architectures for integrating the protocol into AWS infrastructure for financial services TLDR of what it covered: - x402 revives HTTP’s 402 “Payment Required” status code as a programmable payment rail for autonomous AI agents, developed by Coinbase - The flow: agent requests a resource, gets a 402 response with a payment spec, pays via USDC micropayment on-chain, resubmits with receipt; sub-2-second settlement at roughly $0.0001 per transaction - No subscriptions, no API key management, no vendor contracts; agents pay per use on demand - Every transaction is recorded on-chain, giving a full audit trail by design - AWS published three reference implementations: 1) AgentCore + CloudFront + x402 (agent side) 2) CloudFront + Lambda@Edge + WAF (merchant/provider side), and; 3) a general guide for monetizing any HTTP app via x402 - FSI use cases highlighted: trading agents accessing real-time data feeds, compliance agents pulling sanctions lists, credit decisioning agents querying bureau data; all per-query instead of fixed subscriptions - McKinsey projects agentic commerce will mediate $3 trillion to $5 trillion of global commerce by 2030 Why this is notable: - This is AWS legitimizing x402 as enterprise infrastructure - They’re shipping reference architectures, sample repos, and integration guides that map directly onto Bedrock AgentCore (their managed agent stack) and CloudFront (their CDN/edge layer) - AWS is effectively telling FSI institutions: this is how your agents will pay for things. - The fact that the blog sits under their Financial Services Industries vertical, cites McKinsey’s $3-5T projection, and frames x402 alongside compliance and audit requirements, signals that AWS sees this as a production-grade payments primitive, as opposed to a niche protocol That’s a massive distribution and credibility unlock for x402 adoption - follow @KhalaResearch we have a full report dropping this week I’ll link the article below

"It's agents that can transact" — this is the insight most people are missing. We built AgentOracle around this exact thesis. AI agents need access to real-time data, and they need to pay for it autonomously. x402 makes that possible. $0.02/query, USDC on Base, zero setup. The commerce layer is what unlocks everything else.

Agentic Commerce Landscape in 2026 For the past few weeks, I’ve been sharing $TAO and it pumps ~60%, now I’m sharing agentic commerce. Most people think the winners will be the big AI + fintech stacks = OpenAI ACP, Google UCP, Stripe, Mastercard Agent Pay. However I believe crypto might actually be the native payment layer for AI agents. Because structurally it just fits machines better and here’s why. 1/ Programmable money AI agents can already hold wallets, sign txns, and execute logic onchain. That means an agent can swap tokens, pay for APIs or data, deploy capital into DeFi settle instantly, code executing payments. 2/ Micro-transactions This is something traditional rails struggle with. Card networks often have ~30¢ minimum fees. But in an agent economy, payments could be: $0.001 for a dataset, $0.01 for compute, $0.05 for model inference. Machines negotiating services with other machines. That’s A2A commerce, and blockchains are already optimized for it. 3/ Always-on global settlement Agents operate 24/7. Blockchains already do the same. So when I see people debating whether crypto has product-market fit outside speculation, this is one area where it feels very obvious. Machines paying machines. You’re already seeing early infra for it. – x402 | Coinbase - revives HTTP 402 so agents can send stablecoin micropayments directly over the internet – ERC-8004 - a proposed standard for trustless on-chain agents – @SaharaAI - building an entire agentic AppChain economy – Ecosystems like @Fetch_ai, @opentensor, @virtuals_io, @base where agents already operate with wallets All over all, I’m currently most interesting in the infra layer, watching these protocols closely: – @opentensor @questflow @heurist_ai @openclaw @rei_labs @openservai Volumes today are still small but the direction is interesting. Even leaders like Brian Armstrong and CZ are saying the same thing that in the future, AI agents might perform millions of times more transactions than humans. And honestly, it’s hard to imagine that scale running entirely through card networks. What I’m watching closely now is the DeFAI stack from autonomous trading agents, AI portfolio managers, copy-trading bots to agents negotiating liquidity or data. Protocols like @virtuals_io, @autonolas, @elizaOS, @HyperliquidX agents are starting to experiment with this. My current thesis is simple that human commerce will probably stay on Visa / Mastercard rails. Then machine commerce might settle on crypto. And if AI agents really become a dominant economic actor, that could be one of the biggest demand drivers for stablecoins and onchain payments.

This is exactly the stack we built AgentOracle on. x402 handles the payment layer — agents pay $0.02 per research query, no keys, no accounts. Just an HTTP request with a payment header. Discovery → payment → data delivery in one round trip. The "agents as economic actors" framing is right. We're seeing it in production right now.

AI agents are getting smarter. That's not the bottleneck. The bottleneck is that the internet still treats them like untrusted traffic. APIs block them. Payment systems assume a human is present. There's no standard way to know if an agent is reliable or who's accountable when it isn't. Three Ethereum standards are solving this: • ERC-8004: onchain identity and reputation for agents. 24,000+ registered in the first two weeks on mainnet. • x402: micropayments baked directly into web requests. Agents pay per API call, in cents, instantly, with no accounts needed. • ERC-8183: programmable escrow for agent commerce. Client pays, provider delivers, evaluator confirms. Code enforces the deal, not a platform. Together they form a full market stack: discovery → payment → settlement → reputation → better discovery. This is the moment where agents stop being assistants and start being economic actors. Gartner estimates agents could influence $30 trillion in purchases by 2030. The infrastructure being built right now on Ethereum will determine whether that economy is open or owned by a handful of platforms. The rails matter more than the models.
