Immigration is an intentional policy decision, not a force of nature. And currently, whatever politician you hate also supports it. 'legal vs illegal' is barely relevant compared to the larger question of migration itself

@Arbor_Bench There was no negotiation going on between the American parties? It was just "war"?

@drnk2nd It was achieved through war. and the economic interests involved extended down well beyond elites

@Arbor_Bench ?? i was allowed to read at the grade level i tested at, not the grade level i was. which is to say i was in 4th grade but i was allowed to read everything because my AR score said i could read at a 12th grade level

I'd forgotten this happened. In the 2000s, if you asked to read above your grade level you were just told 'no'.

I am pro-property tax. But I do understand the frustrations which arise with it. “Property tax pays for services which every property needs! Like roads, sewers, and police!” “Oh so most of my property taxes are going towards services like that?” “Haha no”

Your likes when BAP retweets you vs when he doesn't. I appreciate him retweeting small accounts that deserve it (Marquis, Audmundr, BidenRapeGroyper back when), but this new crop of sycophantic hangers on is fucking annoying.

@Bob_Somebody021 @favelaoverlord There are no factories, same as the west. These are closer to the UBI office daycare jobs w can't seem to do without (just with a lot less overhead and social corrosion)

@favelaoverlord This cannot plausibly be economically productive, it's just fake shell economy, disgusting, it fills me with righteous fury. The death squads must come in and conscript these people to work in factories. x.com/knrd_z/status/…

A common "job" in Latin America is to buy a 2-liter Coke and some plastic cups and sell them for a quarter. Same in India, but with tea. And these are countries in the middle of the IQ distribution-- they cannot work legally here and survive without massive welfare

@atlanticesque Some of the founding fathers seemed to genuinely envision something like this. Though I doubt Decker honestly shares that spirit. (and it's a bad idea in the most charitable case, for 4 million square miles of land)

@idobadtakes @ChrisExpTheNews This would ideally then permit school admins to give wide latitude to define cause such that parents who are good parents and wouldn’t allow their kids who need it to miss learning have more flexibility and those who don’t fit in that don’t get flexibility

This is the same legal principle whereby parents who make their kids do homework and engage in intellectually stimulating extracurriculars get in trouble for taking their kids on vacations during the school year but nothing happens to kids who don’t show up 50% of the time

i’m really confused about how laws work here. if i tried to go camping in a public park tonight i’d likely be told i cannot, because it’s illegal. i’ve been cleared out of parks for stargazing after hours. a judge just ruled that berkeley has to give homeless people larger sidewalk spaces for camping than was previously determined. who qualifies for this? could i go stake out a piece of sidewalk?

I’m (1) here btw. I know it’s tempting for some of my followers to do a little vice signaling and say (3) and post that Anakin and Padme meme, but even ignoring ethical objections it just doesn’t work. It creates infectious blight and expensive legal obligations and is just bad.

A three-way debate under one of my posts: 1. Public housing is bad because it creates ghettoes 2. Public housing is good, it only creates ghettoes because it’s underfunded 3. Public housing is good because it creates ghettoes, concentrating the poor in one easy-to-avoid place

@saturnine_grace @spacepunk Them lacking God isn't their fault. It's a godless culture that resents Creation. Parents are hated for partaking in creation. Endless pseudo-eugenic comments of 'they don't deserve to be parents'

Why does it seem like parenting is an endeavor where you're much more likely to fail than succeed? I feel like most people i know resent their parents on some level, which is counter-intuitive because it seems like we should be instinctually good at it?

the game is basically saying "dont let other people pigeonhole you into identities you don't have just because of how you may appear" the characters struggle with the public perception as the most extreme version of themselves and feel pressured to fill the role theyre assigned

@favelaoverlord This is just one example of why I realized censorship is good and necessarily. We aren’t more free on this platform than the alternatives - just look at the propaganda spewed here. There’s more uniformity on this site than the alternatives imo. x.com/kinderheimrune…
Rune@KinderheimRune

@JTLonsdale Seems like the ones who benefited the most from censorship are the ones who got censored. Tucker Carlson clearly has no idea how to navigate a space without rules and boundaries without becoming sympathetic to Muslim Brotherhood types.
