"There is no way -- and please make sure to quote me on this -- that this will ever go wrong," said CEO Mort Killmen. "I just want to be clear about that. The probability of this backfiring is absolutely zero."

U.S. company Satyress is developing threehalves, a centaur-style robot designed for dangerous environments such as wildfires, rubble searches, toxic areas and confined spaces. The system combines a humanoid upper body with a quadruped mobility platform. #USA #Robotics #UGV #AI

@Probably_Human_ I think they would cover it up either way and the data is either exactly what you would expect if it was zoonotic at a wet market or it requires a ton of jumps from lab leak to the very next cases just happening to occur around the wet market

A reasonable stance unless you believe ukraine can win then it makes sense to try to negotiate some deal that however doesn't entail a complete stop on weapons though.

William Lawrance @WeWill2026, candidate for Michigan's 7th district, gave us a statement. After asking his position on sanctioning Russian companies that support the war, like Rosneft or Gazprom, we were asked to wait until after the election. We hope he takes an anti-war stance.

If you have strong legs, it's easier to wear a big rucksack than wheel a big suitcase imo. I've hiked for literal days with such a rucksack, but after a 1.5 hour walk to the airport with a suitcase I was exhausted. The main advantage of a suitcase is when unpacking in the hotel.

经过这几年的观察,我发现一个很有意思的现象,就是这些来中国旅游的外国人,他们很喜欢背这种很大的包,不像我们喜欢提着带轮子的大箱子,难道这样背着不累吗?包里背的一般是啥呢?

This Fauci hearing is the biggest explosion of right wing brainworms I've ever seen. Years of debunked and absurd antivax and "gain of function" conspiracy theories expressed as incoherent screaming at an 85 year old man. It's absolutely demented and embarrassing to watch.

Tuberville: "I'll be the governor of Alabama and I promise you we will find out if there's a possibility that we can bring him to Alabama to put him in front of a court and a jury to see if we can put this guy in prison. He killed millions of people, folks."

Guess who said this: "Anyone in my position not taking the Fifth Amendment would be a fool, an absolute fool. One statement or answer that is ever so slightly off, just ever so slightly by accident, by mistake, such as it was a sunny beautiful day, when actually it was slightly overcast, would be met by law enforcement at a level seldom seen in this country, because I've experienced it."

Hawley: "What day of the week is it today?" Fauci: "5th amendment" Hawley: "What color tie are you wearing?" Fauci: "5th amendment" Hawley: "What color is the carpet?" Fauci: "5th amendment."

@TheLastNeocon You can tell who has never worked in an organization where the standard operating procedure to ‘we might have a big compliance problem’ is to destroy all evidence that could validate the suspicion before it can be used to validate the suspicion (internally or externally).

@dilanesper @rwlesq You can tell they didn’t hear Chinese officials saying there was a lab leak because they don’t imply that at any point. The very clear implication is that they think it was a lab leak because of the lengths to which China went to cover everything up

Since we're debating lab leak vs. zoonosis again, the problem is that there's lots of scientific work that points to zoonosis, but the world's intelligence agencies clearly received tons of information from China indicating they were covering up a lab leak.

@dilanesper Well, not the whole intelligence community, but a lot of it. I think it’s more that China covered the whole thing up regardless of whether it was a lab leak because they thought wet markets also made them look back and the portion of the intelligence community read it as lab leak

By the way, this might be the explanation that squares the circle between the intelligence community (which absolutely believes it was a lab leak, and people who say otherwise are incorrect) and the scientific community (which has strong evidence of zoonosis).
Ash Kantor@CentralUnplan

@dilanesper I actually think this isnt too hard to square. China was *very* concerned they had a lab leak on their hands, and so did a ton of stuff to address that chance - which our intelligence services picked up on. They just turned out to be wrong about that - such is intelligence work!

One of the most important lessons from COVID was that there is no such thing as a noble lie. Fauci employed them multiple times. You may get a short-term benefit. And in exchange, you're telling people not to trust anything you say...ever again.

Do we know for sure that COVID leaked from a lab? No. But we do know that many powerful people thought it was possible, and then engaged in an effort to make Americans feel crazy for merely asking about it. That matters, because the truth matters.
Billy Binion@billybinion

Scientists in Fauci’s inner circle privately expressed that they thought COVID-19 may have leaked from a lab. And then they turned around & told the public it was a conspiracy theory, which some in the media ran with. A case study on how to squander credibility on so many levels.
