In case helpful to this discussion here's a review of "the FDA process": -There are FDA in-house career experts, facts-based reviewers. Everything is documented. -They follow a set of review procedures worked out between academics and industry at conferences, and that consensus depends on peer-reviewed papers with much of the facts on the drug's safety/efficacy being presented at many conferences with open discussions. -The FDA reviewers' objective analysis is presented to an external panel of academic peers, where industry conflicts are minimized. -That external committee votes, and the head of the FDA and White House impartially follow the vote of those external committees. China and Europe regulatory authorities to this day have followed this FDA process, showing it has worked.

For those who knew the history of what pain Iran was willing to endure in its multi-year war with Iraq several decades ago, we dreaded when Trump launched his invasion, that Iran would sadly be another quagmire for the US. When MAGA ideologues and right-wing billionaires revered Trump as a strong leader, they didn't factor in that he might be so stupid as to get the US into another Middle Eastern forever war.

@Dareasmunhoz Hegseth's anti-woke political correctness >>US national security. He thinks at the level of a Seal Team unit commander, not the head of the US military. 😖

@GarrisonLovely Do you include this view of peak value for all employees? Amodei/Clark saying mainly true just for lowest-level staff; but for next levels up if they can manage agentic, their value will go up. Amodei/Clark smoking us?

The value of their labor is around its peak: AI employees are frantically trying to render themselves obsolete (on the path to doing the same to rest of us). If they succeed, their leverage goes away first, then ours. Check out my book Obsolete on how we can stop this (see bio).

Big tech largely staved off unionization efforts using generous pay and benefits. But as leadership is increasingly out of step with what the rank and file want, organizing is starting to look more important.

The headline should be the DCCC is appropriately doing its assigned job, picking candidates with the best chance of winning. They have all the data. Nancy Pelosi would have never tolerated factions just looking out for themselves, over coming supporting who's most likely to win. Why isn't @davidsirota and @LeverNews gathering around the most likely winners?

(1) Iran doesn’t have a nuclear weapon. (2) Iran wasn’t close to getting a nuclear weapon. (3) The war could very well convince Iran that a nuclear weapon is its best bet. (4) You can’t bomb a country’s nuclear ambitions away. (5) The admin’s case rests on red herrings.

The staff of “Pablo Torre Finds Out” won the Pulitzer Prize for Audio Reporting on Monday for its deeply reported investigation into how the Los Angeles Clippers seemingly circumvented the NBA’s salary cap, with the Pulitzer board calling the podcast “pioneering and entertaining." “Anyone who wins a Pulitzer should be proud, but it’s especially nice to see someone leave a reliable, well-paying job at ESPN, take a risk on something new, and have it pay off like this,” writes senior media writer Tom Jones. Serious question: if this was any other industry … would the incumbent with a 10x CapEx disadvantage be taken seriously by street?
Bret Kerr 🛡️🧠🛜@BretKerr

🧠📉 **The CapEx Schism: Cognitive Leverage vs. Brute Force.** Everyone is mesmerized by the sheer size of the compute war chests, but @AnthropicAI’s @DarioAmodei just quietly dismantled the entire @OpenAI brute-force thesis on @Kantrowitz’s podcast. The real AGI moat isn't just a large pile of money—it's intrinsic scaling efficiency. If you can achieve the exact same model output 10x cheaper, your capital deficit is merely a "temporary defect." Brute-forcing the scaling laws is a depreciating asset. Cognitive leverage is structural AdS/CFT ⚛️🏄‍♂️🤳alpha. Must-listen architectural breakdown on @BigTechnology 👇
