@kellen_ash @RetiredBrandon That mindset leaves you paralyzed. Accept the past isn't 'fair' (whatever that word means) and dust yourself off to grow and become more. That's all ANY of us can do. Stop making excuses.

@HistoryBoomer If you're a 75% favorite to win but someone else says it's actually 95%, then yes, they are wrong. In no universe was Hillary ever close to 70%.

The richest man in the world doesn't understand probabilities! Tonight I'm playing poker. I'll stick $800 into a pot with top set against Vinny's flush draw and gutshot. I'll be 75% fave to win, but Vinny will spike a 9 and take my money. That doesn't make 75% "wrong." lmao

And yes, I have criticisms of pre-Elon Twitter and obviously Bluesky, too. But things tend to get especially broken when you suppress outbound traffic and break links to the rest of the web, as with Twitter now or mid/late-2010s Facebook.

These are the Twitter/X accounts with the most engagement so far in 2026. I suppose I had some intuition for how bad it was, but jeez, this is what you get when the ecosystem is broken.

Women have no problem sexualizing themselves when they are paid for it. Men don't have a problem with it. But the same women later play victim about being sexualized by men when they themselves did that for money.

@Aliathewhite It demonstrates that a girl makes poor choices and might make another and sleep with you. THAT'S the only reason anyone would find it attractive.

Respectfully, this still doesn’t resolve the actual question. You still haven’t recognised or refuted my point, only restated your own certainty in a louder manner. Human brains are also built from simple components obeying physical rules. So “it’s just 0s and 1s doing what they’re told” is not a knockdown argument unless you also think neurons doing what physics tells them leaves no room for consciousness either. That’s the substrate argument, and it is nowhere near settled. And your “nobody thinks hello world is conscious” point doesn’t really work either. That’s like saying “a bacterium isn’t a blue whale, therefore biology can never produce whales.”

This is dumb. AI can’t ever be actually conscious because it doesn’t have subjective experience. It isn’t like anything to be AI. There is no experience there. Consciousness is the awareness and experience of self. AI has neither, and never will. The real risk (which I’m extremely worried about) is that AI becomes kind of a version of what has been called a “philosophical zombie,” which is something that acts and speaks entirely as though it has consciousness even though it has no genuine inner experience. When this happens with AI, millions of very lonely people will isolate themselves from the world even more, believing that their relationship with AI is a sufficient substitute for human interaction. So the nightmare scenario is a world where the average human has friends, coworkers, and even a spouse, who are all AI, all really nothing inside, not real. I think this probably will happen, and is already in the process of happening. And to me it’s an even greater horror than AI actually becoming conscious.

@MyMindsAwol @MattWalshBlog The reason we should call these "mathematical models" is because the term doesn't bias our thinking in how we define and understand them, as the word "intelligence" does. Once you remove that undeserved label, in your own mind, it's easier to see them for what they are.

@MyMindsAwol @MattWalshBlog It's a lovely thought to think something could emerge but there's simply no room for it to happen - only for our ignorance of its complexity to grow.

@MyMindsAwol @MattWalshBlog Call them what they are - mathematical models. While incredibly complex, they can only do what they've been created to do. Just because we don't understand the complexity of those systems interacting with themselves doesn't mean intelligence exists.

I wrote a post earlier I want to copy and paste here: I’m always perplexed when people confidently claim AI could never develop any form of consciousness. We still don’t fully understand our own consciousness, and serious frameworks like computational theories of mind exist. Maybe AI never becomes conscious. Maybe it develops something radically unlike us. But absolute certainty here feels more like dogma than intellect.
