Dr Griffin's Transparent Words
@JazRignall It was based on the Master System so it had horrible flickering graphics, unstable brightness/contrast and cheap, nasty control dials with buzzing speakers. Even though the PC Engine GT had a tiny screen, it was infinitely better.

A few things about this. Its launch price was today's equivalent of £234, which makes it pretty decent value. Like all color hand-helds back then, it guzzled batteries, so you had to use it sparingly on trips and generally use it plugged in at home. Still loved mine, though.

It's the Game Gear's 35th European anniversary. Sega's color hand-held rolled out this month in 1991, and while it wasn't a huge success (the cheap 'n cheerful Game Boy had already pretty much locked down the portable market), it was still a cool machine with some very fun games.

@JazRignall I bought one when it first came out and was so disappointed to find out it was basically a portable master system

@EngagesBrain @Artemisfornow Interesting on the ‘kinder to clothes’, been getting a few holes in mine but not sure if dryer related or just me squeezing the max out of my polo shirts.

State control under Mad Ed means normal tumble driers will be banned! You now have to spend more money on something that takes longer, doesn’t work efficiently in cold rooms and erm .., costs more. It’s the heat pump tumble drier 🤡

@MuseumCommodore It was was a long slow death but totally expected and sadly predictable. After the A1000 and A500 Commodore just seemed to stop innovating. Everything after that was either crap or a rehash of something previously successful.

32 years ago today — April 29, 1994 — Commodore International declared bankruptcy and began its voluntary liquidation. The company that brought us the best-selling computer of all time (the Commodore 64), the revolutionary Amiga, and countless hours of pure joy in bedrooms and basements around the world… was suddenly gone. For so many of us, it felt like losing a childhood friend. The end of an era. How did you feel when you found out? Were you shocked? Heartbroken? Angry at the management who let it happen? For me, I was walking home after being dropped off by the bus, one of my friends said did I hear Commodore went bankrupt! I said nah, you are dreaming! That evening on the news I saw the evidence that Commodore was no more. I was shocked. I still had my Commodore 64 and loved playing it, but I was dumbfounded that the company that made such an awesome computer, could go belly up. We all know why it happened though, frustratingly bad management. Love or hate the revival by Perifractic and his team, but surely we need to admit this is a second chance to do things right with Commodore. Do you remember the announcement?

@zx_spectrum_30 @Artemisfornow We had to replace our 20yr old vented dryer a couple of years ago. Took a gamble and went for a Sharp heat pump and it's actually turned out better than I thought it might. - Slower to dry - Slightly noisier + Kinder to clothes + Cheaper to run (£90-ish per year for us iirc).

@EngagesBrain @JayzTwoCents There's a 3rd type, called tmr, better then hall effects. Hall effects are supposedly less accurate then pots, but hold up better. Tmr's are supposed to be the best of both.

As someone that is very hard on controllers and keeps burning through them, I am cautiously optimistic about the Steam Controller. I may just have to bite the bullet and give it a shot. My latest controller which is great at first and eventually starts stick drifting like mad is the Thrustmaster ESwap. Their sticks fail so bad overtime they actually made them got swappable.... I don't care about the touch pads at all on Steam Controller but if the sticks are good and the buttons don't feel like melted butter I'll be happy.

@Aguinar0000 - Mega-CD, 32X & Saturn had caused a lot of damage to Sega's previously solid brand. - Weird controller with only 1 thumb-stick when 2 had recently been established as the standard. - No DVD drive was an astonishingly bad choice. Love my Dreamcast though. Great console.

We are pleased to confirm plans for the UK and Europe's first purpose-built women's football stadium. 🏟️ It will be one of only three such stadiums in the world, putting the club at the forefront of the women's game globally. 🤩💫

blindly optimistic take : the MOD is not ordering the next batch unless the JPO moves the Meteor and SPEAR integration up the list.... probably delusionally optimistic, but the Italians would like to see the Meteor too. ukdefencejournal.org.uk/uk-completes-i…
