We may never learn the exact reason why the F-35 was detected on radar for obvious reasons. Whether it was pilot error or war fatigue, if it is the latter the US & Israel could lose a huge strategic advantage as other countries will be watching this development very closely.

@ehhsomething75 I don't think it was an ambush that got the F-35, I think it was just a target of opportunity. I think the war is a bit too chaotic right now for there to be real patterns like we've seen Ukraine. I think the system got lucky and was in the right place at the right time.

1- I didn't even think to check if an SU-57 was ever hit lmao 2- Gabriel brother that's how jets are supposed to operate Firing stand off munitions/Air to Air missiles from outside AD range What happened is likely that Iran used "ambush" tactics to hit the F-35

@simpatico771 The SU-57 spends its time staying well behind the border and launching cruise missiles and R-37's.

@ehhsomething75 RCS is not overrated. Radar makes up the real overlapping coverage of an integrated air defense system and low RCS makes it a lot easier to penetrate it. That's why we saw the F-35 get engaged by an IR shorad Rather than any of the long range Iranian systems.

@GabrielRobins2 RCS ain't everything in fact it's overrated The F-35 had to make plenty of sacrifices to reach that low RCS

@ehhsomething75 The fact that an SU-57 hasn't been lost is more indicative of how conservative Russia has been with them, there's been very few confirmed instances of them even entering Ukrainian airspace.

@GabrielRobins2 Also a bit of context on the A-50's It was another "ambush" Hunting with AD is actually pretty OP and Ukraine is great at it Which the fact that they haven't shot down an SU-57 yet tells you everything you need to know

@ehhsomething75 Hunting with AD works when your enemy doesn't have good ISR and SEAD/DEAD. Even despite that the Russians have taken out Ukrainian air defenses that tried to do ambushes.

@CamrynsOp @Jackerofmeat @ArmyRecognition It would be pretty capable against the various Iranian TEL's as it could get them quickly before they could relocate but we have reapers over Iran for that and we need to save them for a truly powerful adversary

@ehhsomething75 A-50 was done by an S-200 or Patriot and two were shot down. We don't really have any proof that the SU-57 is operating over Ukraine at all. It's RCS is vastly inferior to the 35 and it would still be very vulnerable.

@GabrielRobins2 A-50 was most on the ground if I remember The rest were lost to A- AD ambushes B- Russia getting arrogant the SU-57 is just more forgiving with arrogance But as soon as they get too arrogant it'll be shot down like the F-35

Assuming the F-35 vid from Iran is real (damage has been confirmed but not that specific vid) The real question we should be asking is not regarding the F-35's stealth, but rather why did the AN/AAQ-37 DAS failed to detect the incoming missile, as the F-35 failed to react.

EO/Ir systems struggle in bad weather and have significantly worse range than radar systems, they are not the end of Stealth in any sense. Remember B-2's have penetrated Iranian Airspace on multiple occasions to strike some of the most defended Iranian targets with Gravity Bombs.

For all the folks talking about the F-35 being hit by Iranian Air Defenses and calling it the end of Stealth: The engagement was done by an EO/IR system and there is zero evidence a radar was involved in the engagement at any point.

@ehhsomething75 The felon if it lived up to the propaganda should be the most Survivable asset to accomplish those missions. The reality is they are scared of losing their miniscule fleet of Felons and so have been using them in a way that doesn't even leverage their capabilities

@ehhsomething75 Russia has had to send plenty of aircraft into the range of Ukrainian air defenses and has lost plenty trying to do so. SU-34's with UPMK, SU-25SM3, SU-35's e. t. c. They even lost an A-50 that got too close to Ukraine. 1/2

@zhao_dashuai Those two bumps are dedicated radar reflectors, everything else is modeled into the RCS calculations.

No wonder why Iranian air defense was able to detect, track, lock-on and damage the F-35. Just look at the bumpy underbelly of the F-35, those little bumps are perfect radar reflectors. The F-35 being bloated (fat), also causes issues with cooling, making them more detectable by infrared sensors.

@UserRedDawg @boomers_ass Yeah it has an inbuilt drouge, and all of that. It carries less cargo and fuel but has a more efficient fuel burn (so still a decent offload capacity). You have a lot more of them do you can use 2 46's if needed.

@boomers_ass There's some gossip going on the E-3Gs in Gulf are struggling to detect Shaheeds against the ground clutter. E-2 equipped with better suited radar are coming "pronto" to bridge the gap.

@boomers_ass Isn't someone planning on retiring the USAF E-3 AWACS in favor of more E-2s? This would be like the clever plan to have all the American standoff jamming capability sit in EA-18s instead of keeping the Spark 'Varks flying too.
