@MicallefPhilip @FIFAWorldCup Yeah … but some fantastic stories in the groups. Need to see it in the 360. You’re obviously not tired of the Euro-centric football world, but many of us are. All things are a bit crap in development. The football world’s changing and this recognises that.

Now we’re talking: This World Cup has exploded into action in the rd of 32 after the insipid group phase. @FIFAWorldCup #MéxicoVsEcuador #fifa

WOW.
Marcelo Bielsa is 70 years of age, and his parting message to Uruguay carries a lesson every coach should sit with.
No group is the same.
No individual is the same.
Nobody.
Bielsa admits he has never tried to be the “friendly” coach. He values order, discipline, seriousness, obsession. That has made him one of the most respected minds in football.
But even Bielsa seems to accept something powerful here:
That approach does not work for every player.
It does not work in every environment.
And knowledge alone is never enough.
As a coach, you have to find a way to connect.
Quote us on this:
“You can have all the knowledge in the world, but it is absolutely useless if the people playing don’t like you.
Player management and people management might not be on coaching courses, but don’t be kidded by associations.
It is the most important quality a coach can have.”
Football is about tactics, detail, preparation and standards.
But above all, it is about people. So many coaches out there fail to grasp this, they think they can shout their way to development or success, and this day and age you simply can't.

@Sachk0 Still don’t think people understand how much potential (and current performance) he has.

@KanteBeStopped7 @aleaguemen @eToroAU Steady on. If we’d be consistent with him he would have been better for us. Millsy will do him the world of good.

Newcastle continue to strengthen with the signing of Patrick Wood from Sydney FC👏
The 23-year-old departs the Sky Blues after racking up over 100 appearances for the club

@M1D3V He’ll do fine. We never gave him consistent minutes which as we all know is a killer for strikers.

@GSantos_93 @rwilliams1947 For 99% of the game, they couldn’t. Not saying Brazil didn’t play okay but that was Japan’s game and they shrunk.
English

@GhostofZevon @rwilliams1947 "you can’t play through"
And yet, that's exactly how Brazil scored the winning goal 👍

@NicR1999_ You’ve obviously forgotten how crap the games were in that bath up there

To the remaining fans of North Queensland Fury,
Please know if there are no huge banners of #BringBackTheFury at the Australia v Brazil game in Townsville you’re doing your country a disservice.

@Sachk0 Yes and no. The Prem League this year shows what happens when you let keeper crowding and interference go unchecked. Germany really didn’t do enough to win that game.

Crazy thing about Ancelotti is that he probably didn’t say anything to them at half time😂
There was a game Dortmund was beating Real Madrid at half time, I think 2 or 3-0, Madrid came back to win that game.
Bellingham was asked what Carlo said at half time. He said the coach just told them to do their thing😂😂😂
Every player that has played under Carlo Ancelotti always say the same thing, his man-management. Gareth Bale also mentioned this. Carlo believes his guys, and he just trusts you to get the job done.

Carlo Ancelotti team losing the first half and then making a late comeback in the second. We have seen this movie so many times.

@scout_aussie We’re getting context around our performance so far. Look at the nations who have gone home, too. We can beat Egypt - we all know we can. From there, it’s a toss up. Feeling quite bullish.

@Ruxiiii4 Took you a while but you caught on eventually.

Trabzonspor coming in hot for Nestory Irankunda 🇦🇺🇹🇷 🔥
⚡ The 20-year-old winger impressed during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, catching the eye with his electric pace, fearless 1v1 ability and memorable goal against Türkiye.
👀 It’s understood Trabzonspor boss Fatih Tekke is a big admirer of Irankunda after watching him throughout the tournament.
💰 The Watford F.C. star has a reported €10 million release clause, but it expires on July 1, leaving Trabzonspor with very little time to make their move.

@Ruxiiii4 Absolute bullshit. He started the game wide. Then drifted in. Then went back to his original position. Brazil went to the air is what changed. Seriously dude, watch the game.

The change from Ancelotti to move Vinicius Junior from playing inside to playing closer to the touchline was a game-changer.
It was the main reason why Brazil dominated Japan in the second half.
It wasn’t an easy adjustment because Vini had been scoring a lot of goals and making a difference when playing inside. However, against a team like Japan, who don’t really allow access to central spaces, Vini’s influence was too limited. Naturally, he was already moving wider in the first half to get more involved.
It was a very good adaptation from Ancelotti to allow Vini to move further out wide. His threat and ability to carry the ball forced Japan to drop deeper and defend closer to their own goal. This created more options for Brazil to attack with crosses into the box, something that made less sense in the first half because Japan’s defensive block was positioned slightly higher up the pitch.
This small adjustment completely changed the dynamics of the game.
