So very saddened to hear of the passing of Colin Renfrew. He was kind to me and generous with his time and knowledge.

#Sudan 🇸🇩: in what is the biggest government victory to date, #SAF troops have recaptured the city of #Singa in #Sennar state. Singa is the first regional capital to be retaken from the #RSF.

I’m back in Sudan, which suffers the worst displacement crisis in the world:  14 million people have been driven from their homes by armed groups acting with impunity. Millions receive no real aid nor protection. The few remaining safe areas are bursting at the seams. 1/2

For context, a sack of rice in Omdurman is about 64 US dollars - a university lecturer's salary is 70 dollars. Let that sink in. Now consider what they're demanding at Al Fasher. For a sack of rice.

This RSF militiamen threatens traders bringing in food and fuel supplies in to Al Fashir. Saying if we catch you we will tie you up to the steering wheels of your vehicles and burn you in your car alive. Al Fashir is being starved and not enough people are talking about it #Sudan

Got myself an early Xmas present. Counting down the days until teaching is all done so I can read this in peace. As always, book suggestions are very welcome :-)

New study on the death toll from #Sudan's conflict estimates over 61,000 deaths in Khartoum state alone, with over 90% of deaths there since the war began having gone unrecorded.
London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine@LSHTM

📢'Invisible & severe' death toll of #Sudan conflict revealed Study estimates more violent deaths in Khartoum State alone than current number recorded for entire country. Evidence death toll in other regions also higher. 👉lshtm.ac.uk/newsevents/new…

An often sidelined issue during wartime is the protection of women’s rights, particularly in areas like SRH, which tends to be neglected both during and after wartime. Andariya is hosting this Facebook Live tomorrow evening to bring much needed attention to spotlight this issue.
Andariya-أندريا@AndariyaMag

Join us on Wednesday 13 Nov at 7:00 PM Sudan time in a Facebook Live where we'll discuss Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights of Sudanese Women; • The conversation will center women’s experiences during difficult times, prioritizing the conflict's effect on them and dismantling the public priorities speech that tries to marginalize women’s voices.
 • We will highlight how conflict and instability disproportionately affect women’s health, limiting their access to safe child delivery operations, hygienic period products, management facilities and essential care for pregnant women and new mothers. This might result in pushing women to return to old and traditional practices that might be harmful for their health.
 • We'll aim to understand the physical and psychological impact of insufficient access to SRHR care and products, such as social isolation and stigma.
 • Finally, we discuss locally driven initiatives and efforts to reduce the effect of the current crisis. We will be joined by: *Fatima Ali: Social Change and SRHR Strategist. Dr Marwa Tageldin: Menstrual Health Expert and SRHR Advocate. Dr Tibyan Elhussain: Medical doctor and Founder of Shani Girls Club. #Sudan #women #SRHR #Health

Hello new followers - sorry just catching up. I’m mostly a bit quieter on social media in general these days - partly bc work and life are hard, but also for mental health reasons. Usually, I rabbit on about archaeology. And cats :-)
