Jesus answer is radical precisely because of that context which is “Stop looking outside yourselves for a future event, a geographical location, or a visible spectacle. The Kingdom of God is within you right now (Luke 17:21).” He wasn’t saying “it’s among you because I’m standing here.” He was pointing to the eternal Christ Consciousness that is the true identity of every being. The same presence he awakened to is already in you, in me, in the Pharisees, they simply hadn’t realized it yet. That’s why he could say “the Kingdom of God is within you” even while standing in front of religious experts who were blind to it. I’ll say it again, Institutional Christianity turned this inner teaching into the exact opposite to shame and instill fear - to control by saying “You are a broken, unworthy sinner who must admit how not good enough you are, beg for forgiveness, and hope for an external heaven later.” That is the distortion. It’s wildly inaccurate and heresy. That is the shame story Jesus came to dissolve. You are not a broken sinner who needs to earn worthiness. You are an eternal expression of God who simply forgot its Oneness. The goal is to remember. Awakening from that forgetting is heaven. No admission of unworthiness required. You just need to wake up. The Pharisees missed it because they were looking with the ego’s eyes. Just as you are now. Traditional Christianity has been doing the same thing for 2,000 years. Thanks but no thanks to that version. The real Jesus taught “The Kingdom of God is within you.” And he meant exactly that. Drop the shame story. Remember who you are. Tony, setting all the analysis aside, you’ve earned a lot of respect on this platform. You’ve built a real track record of engaging thoughtfully, and even when the noise here gets to you, you generally keep a level head and stay grounded. And when you don’t, you catch yourself.
