The BJP through this Bill has institutionalised two major Brahmanical forms of marginalisation and stigmatisation of transgender persons -- i) by eliminating the statutory foundation for the right to gender self-determination on the "basis of any acquirable characteristics or personal choice or claimed self-perceived identity", the BJP is implying that transgender identities cannot be acquired and these acquired, personal identities as abnormal and unnatural. In simpler words, the BJP is saying that trans men, many trans women, and genderqueer people suffer from mental disease and disorder, and/or are coerced into acquiring such identities. ii) it has revived and legislatively endorsed pernicious myths that cast trans people as evil coercers, which criminalises the transgender persons. Traditional kinship and community support systems such as the guru-chela networks, deras, and gharanas that provide shelter, mentorship, and livelihood could now be construed as “compelling” individuals into a transgender identity. Parents affirming their child’s gender identity, social workers providing counselling, non-governmental organisations offering housing and livelihood support, and medical professionals delivering gender-affirming care all face potential criminal liability. The message is simple -- socially and legally criminalise the transgenders, segregate and enforce further marginalisation of the community within the social structure. The “accepted” identities will be processed as subjects, robbed of their privacy and dignity, their identity left at the discretion of the “Authority”. This draconian and unconstitutional Bill nullifies the very limited progress made in transgender rights, welfare, and reverse decades of advocacy for recognition, dignity, self-respect, inclusion, justice and empowerment for the transgender persons. This Bill advances systematic exclusion, trauma and violence, both physical and symbolic, of the transgender persons. It disproportionately harms transgender individuals from marginalised caste backgrounds. Dalit, Adivasi and Muslim trans and genderqueer persons, who face deep economic precarity and social exclusion, already struggle with systemic barriers to resources, safety, livelihood and dignity, and are now at heightened risk of losing even the limited legal protections and social supports they had. Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi stands with the transgender community 🏳️‍⚧️ 🏳️‍⚧️ 🏳️‍⚧️
Yes, We Exist 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈@YesWeExistIndia

Dark Day for Democracy! Trans Bill passed in both houses. Trans men, trans non binary persons and trans women who are not kinner-hijra will NOT be legally recognised as trans anymore! Bill passed without community or NCTP consultation. Calls to differ to select committee ignored.

- देवेंद्र फडणवीस, मुख्यमंत्री #DevendraFadnavis #AjitPawar #RohitPawar #Baramati #LatestNews (Devendra Fadnavis, Ajit Pawar, Rohit Pawar, Baramati, Maharashtra)

#WATCH | Mumbai | NCP-SP MLA Rohit Pawar says," Initially, I had tried to file the FIR in the Ajit Dada case in Maharashtra. I tried to file a Zero FIR in Mumbai, but it did not happen. Then, I went to Baramati. But even then, it was not registered. Then I had no option but to look out for another state. I visited Delhi, where I met LoP Rahul Gandhi ji. He spoke to me for 45 minutes during which he tried to understand the subject. When he came to know that my FIR regarding Ajit Pawar's accident was not taken, he was left surprised. He suggested that I go to a state where I would get justice. He did not name any state. I went to Karnataka, where my FIR was registered. So now, there will be an investigation into this."

March 25, 1971 is observed as Genocide Day. On the occasion of Genocide Day, 1 pay my deepest respect to all the martyrs. In the history of freedom-loving Bangladesh, 25 March 1971 remains one of the most disgraceful and brutal days. On that dark night, the Pakistani occupation forces carried out one of the most heinous genocides in history against the unarmed people of Bangladesh in the name of 'Operation Searchlight". They indiscriminately opened fire on teachers, intellectuals and innocent civilians at various places, including Dhaka University, Pilkhana and Rajarbāgh Police Lines, killing many people. The genocide of 25 March was a pre-planned massacre. Why this organised killing spree could not be resisted remains a matter of historical research regarding the visible role of the political leadership of that time. However, on the night of 25 March, the 8th East Bengal Regiment in Chattogram formally initiated armed resistance against the genocide by declaring 'We Revolt'. Through this resistance to genocide, the long nine-month armed Liberation War began. To convey the value and significance of independence to the present and future generations, it is essential to know about the genocide of 25 March as well. Let us all strive to honour the sacrifices of the martyrs by establishing in the state and society the spirit of the great Liberation War - equality, human dignity and social justice. Let us work together to build a just, developed, prosperous, self-reliant and democratic Bangladesh. I pray to the Almighty Allah to grant forgiveness and eternal peace to the departed souls of all the martyrs. On the occasion of Genocide Day on 25 March. I wish every success to all the programmes organised to observe the day.

After a decade on the The Advertising Standards Council of India’s Consumer Complaints Council (CCC), yesterday (March 24) marked my final meeting, and the close of a truly enriching chapter. What began in 2016 as an opportunity to contribute to the marketing services fraternity turned into a very rewarding 10-year journey. I still recall the early days of in-person meetings at @ascionline's Worli office, where discussions often ran well past the agenda (and we didn't mind it!), and then the move in 2020 to virtual sessions, where we all became familiar squares on a screen. Having known ASCI from my days as a rookie journalist, being part of the Consumer Complaints Council offered a much-nuanced understanding of the media ecosystem. It’s been fascinating to witness ASCI’s evolution into a more dynamic, forward-looking organisation. The Secretariat is a stronger collective, a team of very capable professionals carrying the mission forward with purpose. I will miss the conversations, the debates, the learning… and the camaraderie. My sincere thanks to the ASCI team for the warm farewell (see pic), and to everyone who took the time to join or reach out.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today told the Legislative Assembly that strict action would be taken in the Ashok Kharat case, asserting that “no one found guilty will be spared” amid mounting pressure from the Opposition and Congress leaders. Describing the case as “extremely serious,” Fadnavis said the accused, Ashok Kharat, had allegedly misused claims of “supernatural powers” to exploit and commit serious offences against several women. He emphasised that the nature of the allegations made the case deeply concerning. The Chief Minister said police had been working on the case for some time and had laid a strategic trap as part of the investigation. He revealed that a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued as early as March 10, based on a complaint registered in another district, to prevent the accused from leaving the country. @CMOMaharashtra | @Dev_Fadnavis | #DevendraFadnavis | #Maharashtra | #AshokKharat | #UNI
