We had an incident with our neighbor last year. We got along very well with them for the first 4 years of living next door. We had keys to each other's houses, often had bbq's with them, and went out for dinner. Then, their 13-year-old dog was doing poorly. In Jan '25, the dog could barely walk. She had cancerous tumors bleeding all over. She lost weight. I told the neighbor that it was time to put her down. She said she knew, but her husband wasn't ready. As the weeks went by, the dog got worse. Still, they wouldn't take our advice. Then in March '25, the dog couldn't stand any more. I started crying and told my guy that the dog is suffering. Again, we begged her to have the poor baby put down. Instead, she told us they were leaving on vacation the next day for a week. A dog sitter would check in on the dog twice a day! We couldn't believe it. We heard the dog moaning the next day, and we went over to find her lying in her own poop in a garage with no air conditioning. It was shut off and over 80 degrees in there. The dog sitter arrived and was disgusted; she had not been told the dog was in this condition. 2 days later, she took the dog herself to be put down. She died with strangers. When the neighbors came home, my guy texted her and told her that we couldn't believe they did this to that poor animal. They got angry and haven't spoken to us since. We should have called the police. I hate living next door to them now.
