Thanks to the relentless efforts of PanCAN advocates across the country, this year’s House Dear Colleague letter, supporting $25 million for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Program (PCARP) at the Department of Defense, garnered a record-breaking 127 signatures — thank you to the representatives who signed in support. 👏 Even more powerful, this milestone reflects strong bipartisan support — a clear signal that improving outcomes for patients with pancreatic cancer is a shared priority. To every advocate who took action and shared their story — thank you. Your voices are driving momentum at a critical time in the FY27 budget process. This achievement builds on the success we saw in FY26 and reinforces a simple truth: advocacy — your advocacy — works. But our work isn’t over. A strong, bipartisan House Dear Colleague letter is a major step forward, but it is only one part of a long process. We must continue to connect with lawmakers at every stage to ensure this support turns into the full $25 million appropriation for PCARP. Next, we turn our focus to the Senate. Soon, a Senate Dear Colleague letter will begin circulating, and we will once again call on our community to take action. Sustaining — and growing — this momentum is essential. Every connection and every story shared keeps pancreatic cancer top of mind for decision-makers. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Progress takes persistence, and the stakes are too high to slow down now. Together, we’ve proven what’s possible. Now, let’s keep going — for patients, for families and for the future we’re building. 💜 Be among the first to know when to contact your senators to urge them to support dedicated funding for pancreatic cancer research in FY27. A #PanCANvolunteer from our Michigan Affiliates, Renee C. reflects on how her family’s journey with #pancreaticcancer inspired her lifelong dedication to PanCAN’s mission. 💜 She shares, "In November of 2016, my mother was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. The diagnosis was blindsiding. My family had never known anyone with pancreatic cancer. My dad began Googling like crazy to find pancreatic cancer resources and stumbled upon PanCAN. He sent an email to our family to say he had found PanCAN, learned about PanCAN PurpleStride and created a PurpleStride team for PurpleStride Michigan the following spring. We did our first PurpleStride in 2017, and I was hooked. We had 14 months with my mom before she passed in January 2018. Near the end, we had really good conversations. She asked me if I would keep fighting on her behalf and keep volunteering with PanCAN for her. I said that I would. Unfortunately, my dad unexpectedly died five weeks later. He had early-stage lung cancer and had a rare reaction to radiation. During that time, we also lost two more family members to pancreatic cancer. I later lost two cousins and my husband’s aunt died from it as well. We’ve lost a good friend to pancreatic cancer, and I have a friend who is 42, the same age as me, who received a pancreatic cancer diagnosis as well. I went from knowing no one with pancreatic cancer to having it become a big part of my life." When asked what advice she would give others who have been affected by pancreatic cancer, Renee shares, "I would tell them to find PanCAN. Find your closest affiliate and build a relationship. You don’t have to start as a volunteer; it’s just nice to have those relationships and resources. I can’t think of how many times I’ve met newly diagnosed patients and put them in touch with survivors who became part of their support systems. Use the resources PanCAN provides, including PanCAN Patient Services. Lean on us." Read Renee’s full story at ➡️ pcan.at/dv6qm8

It’s dark. It’s cold. It’s winter. For people living in many parts of the U.S., this trifecta may affect a person’s mood in different ways, including for some the onset of seasonal affective disorder or SAD. And for many, the post-holiday period can bring mixed emotions: Happy memories of a time filled with joy and that good kind of stress that comes with family gatherings. Or sadness about guests going home and life returning to its normal routine. For people living with #pancreaticcancer, the cancer journey itself adds another layer of complex emotion to navigate. 💜 If any of this strikes a chord, you are not alone. In the latest installment of our Taboo Topic series, we'll talk about cold, dark days, the complications they may bring and some strategies to help get through. Read more at 🔗 pcan.at/7y9100.
