This week, I led the floor debate on my resolution to advance legislation to end the ongoing Democrats' Homeland Security Shutdown. Our Republican Majority in the House passed my resolution and voted to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security at a time when threats to our Country are rising. Senate Democrats must act and end their Homeland Security Shutdown!

Our Congressional District mourns the tragic loss of Thomas “Wayne” Reynolds, a Georgian whose life was taken away by a criminal illegal alien in a deadly motor vehicle accident. Today, President Trump’s Administration announced the arrest of the individual who caused the accident, an illegal alien from Guatemala with a prior history of criminal acts, including a hit-and-run. Wayne Reynolds was a motor grader, who spent more than 40 years building the roads on which our community relies. Wayne was a resident of our Congressional District, and a very proud father of 5 children and grandfather of 10 grandchildren. I am working closely with the Reynolds family to deliver swift justice for a life taken far too early, and a family now without a father, a grandfather, and a role model.

Felix Domingo Perez Camacho, a criminal illegal alien from Guatemala, was taken into custody by ICE this week after he caused a motor vehicle accident in Georgia, killing 63-year-old Thomas Wayne Reynolds, a beloved father to five children and grandfather of 10. ERO officers located and arrested Perez Camacho within 24 hours of initiating the search for him. Perez Camacho has a prior criminal history that includes multiple traffic-related convictions, as well as a conviction for hit and run. He entered the United States at an unknown time, in an unknown place, evading detection and apprehension. He remains in ICE custody pending further proceedings. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is committed to keeping illegal aliens out of American communities, and out of our country.

On this day in 1923, Colonel Joe Madison Jackson, an American hero, was born in Newnan, Georgia. After graduating from Newnan High School, Joe enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, the predecessor of the U.S. Air Force. Eventually earning the rank of Colonel, Joe Jackson served with distinction in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. During the Battle of Kham Duc of the Vietnam War in 1968, Colonel Jackson demonstrated extraordinary courage by flying his aircraft through intense enemy fire to rescue three stranded servicemen. For his bravery during that mission, Colonel Jackson was presented the Medal of Honor by President Lyndon B. Johnson on January 16, 1969. Colonel Jackson retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1974 after more than 33 years of honorable service to our Country. Colonel Jackson will forever be remembered as one of the greatest Americans from Georgia’s 3rd Congressional District!

President Trump’s State of the Union address was exceptional. The stories he wove into his speech accentuated our record of achievement over the past year, and the honors he bestowed upon our great heroes captured the essence of what has made our Country the greatest of all. The data President Trump presented to the American people is inarguable: ✅ Our Border is secure ✅ Gas prices are down ✅ Mortgage rates are low ✅ The stock market continues to hit all-time highs ✅ American energy production is at record levels And, passage and enactment of our Working Families Tax Cut and the resulting economic success has already lifted 2.4 million Americans off of food stamps, a generational impact for hardworking American families. Indeed, the State of our Union is STRONG, and the Golden Age of America is upon us!

Today, I welcomed Consul General of Japan Kenichi Matsuda to Peachtree City to tour four Japanese-owned, American-operated businesses: Hoshizaki America, TDK Components USA, Shinsei Corporation, and Asahi Biosciences. In the years after Peachtree City’s founding, international investment from companies like Hoshizaki and TDK accelerated the growth of our community, and Consul General Matsuda’s visit amplified the advantages and business-friendly climate Georgia’s 3rd Congressional District offers international companies exploring investment in our country. Thank you, Consul General Matsuda for visiting Peachtree City!

Democrats are now recklessly advocating for another shutdown of our federal government. As Americans are recovering from a winter storm that has crippled cities across our country, Democrats are preparing to defund the Department of Homeland Security, the entity which administers funding to state emergency management agencies and protects us from foreign adversaries. In 2024, the American people delivered President Trump a mandate to fully implement our country’s immigration laws. In the wake of Saturday’s tragic loss of life, President Trump has called on Democrat Governors and Mayors to cooperate with federal law enforcement operations to fulfill his mandate, instead of intentionally obstructing and stoking the flames of division and chaos.

My joint statement with Leader @SteveScalise, @GOPMajorityWhip Emmer, and @HouseGOP Chairwoman @RepLisaMcClain on fully funding the America First Agenda by completing FY26 Appropriations: Today, House Republicans completed another monumental achievement by completing Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations — without a bloated omnibus bill or another continuing resolution. Despite slim margins, nonstop media noise, and Democrats’ 43-day government shutdown, House Republicans have made significant progress to restore regular order and return the appropriations process to a committee-led, member-driven approach. Chairman Cole and our appropriators worked tirelessly for months to deliver this outcome, and today, the House joined them in getting the job done. Together, all twelve appropriations bills provide responsible, full-year government funding, spend less than another continuing resolution, and codify reforms to cut waste, fraud, and abuse. Today, we honor the life and legacy of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King, a native Atlantan, was uniquely familiar with Georgia’s 3rd Congressional District. His brother, A.D. Yesterday, I welcomed U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon (@EdSecMcMahon) and Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones (@LtGovJonesGA) to Coweta County. We toured the Central Educational Center in Newnan and held a roundtable discussion on education and workforce development with bipartisan state and local leaders. This was the 8th visit by a Member of President Trump’s Cabinet to our Congressional District during my first term, and we’re already planning the next one, to showcase the incredible things happening across our part of Georgia!

I join my colleagues in mourning the sudden passing of our friend, Congressman Doug LaMalfa, a husband and a father to four children. Doug served California’s 1st Congressional District honorably as the Chairman of the Western Caucus, a champion for water rights, and an expert on forestry issues. Though he represented a Congressional District many miles away, he was uniquely familiar with our district, as he was a passionate fan of NASCAR and Atlanta Motor Speedway. May his memory be a blessing, and his service to our country an example for generations to come.

Today in the History of Georgia’s 3rd Congressional District: On January 5, 1872 — 154 years ago today — Edwin R. Sharpe and W. H. Meigs published the first issue of The Carroll County Times. The Times was published weekly, on Fridays, and it quickly became Carroll County’s legal organ. The Times eventually merged with other papers to become the @TimesGeorgian, which continues to serve the incredible people of Carroll County today. Pictured is a copy of the first issue of The Carroll County Times. On its front page, annual subscriptions are advertised for $2.00, and the train schedules to Atlanta and West Point are listed.

I commend President Trump’s decisive action in Venezuela, and I applaud the bravery, precision, and expertise displayed by our United States Armed Forces. Previous Democrat and Republican Administrations disregarded Nicolás Maduro as an illegitimate head of state, for he was instead the leader of the Cartel de los Soles, whose principal targets were American citizens. Maduro’s Cartel flooded our Country with drugs to poison our communities, empowered vicious gangs to prey upon our cities, and confiscated and extorted our property. Multiple offers were made to end Maduro’s reign of terror without force, but Maduro refused, opting to instead seek additional harm and injury to our Country. Maduro will now face American justice, and the American people will be safer through the complete dismantlement of his criminal Cartel.
