Today, we mourn the passing of United States Senator Lindsey Graham, a fierce advocate for the people of South Carolina. May his memory be a blessing to his family and friends.
Born in Upstate South Carolina, tragedy struck Lindsey early in his life. After he graduated from high school, Lindsey’s mother and father passed away within 15 months of each other, leaving him without parents and his 13-year-old sister orphaned. Lindsey shifted his focus to raising and caring for his sister, assuming a responsibility few can imagine at that age.
The resilience and sense of duty he developed during those difficult years would come to define a lifetime of service.
For 33 years, Lindsey served our Country in the United States Air Force. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service shortly before retiring as a Colonel.
For 31 years, Lindsey served in the United States Congress, and became one of the most influential lawmakers in our Country.
Lindsey’s unexpected passing also affirms a profound truth: every day we live is a gift and a blessing from God.
