A lovely late autumn day to sign off a project completed by always brilliant @EnvAgencySW @DCfieldteamsEA. New public safety fencing and staff gauge at Molingey GS, St Austell The site is now match fit for its important work flood warning as well as abstraction issues upstream

Rainy summer days but no stopping @DCfieldteamsEA as they overhaul another @HydrometryEA real time raingauge. You can see the temporary Pelicase setup that kept the dataset flowing while the overhaul took place. Great to have another one back in fine fettle!

Hydrometry teams are constantly working to maintain and improve data from our river flow sites. Devon & Cornwall’s @xrunnerwill and team has done a great job ensuring this site will continue to deliver data for decades to come. And now with improved renewable power. 👌👏

Ending the week on a high with excellent news from the wilds of Exmoor! Gauge thoroughly overhauled by NIVUS UK with new microrenewables, measurement sensors and telemetry housing. Thanks to all involved for getting this vital improvement completed

After 18 years doing one of the most enjoyable jobs on the planet, it's time for a change. From June, I'll be working as a Lead Local Flood Authority Advisor. It's been great sharing our brilliant monitoring, but don’t worry, I will still be keeping you up to date! 😀👍

Sorry to see this one leave the EA last week. Tim Shipton D&C H&T Tech Spec. His combined field and data knowledge will be a great loss to Hydrometry UK. Wishing him all the very best for the future #Hydrometry #Telemetry

@rsevern7 Great news on both the flood defence walls and gauge front. Hopefully things settle down before the next batch of rain arrives eh!

@Robostski New defences protected around 2000 properties from flooding. The NIVUS gauge worked really well. Calibrated to within 3% of gauging. No pictures of that, a long way underwater..

Working at the picturesque Montford river flow monitoring station today in this unseasonal heat. It’s crucial for regulating the river Severn, managing abstractions & issuing flood warnings. It was first opened in 1952, making it one of the oldest stations in the West Midlands.

@NIVUS_UK New Nivus cross correlation flow meter installed for the Environment Agency in Tavistock. Side mounted velocity sensors will help the EA provide accurate continuous flow measurement of the River Tavy. Light weight carbon fibre mounting system for ease of maintenance.

@SirGeogy @HydrometryEA @SirGeogy Hi Simon, Nivus can offer a specific instrument based on the cross correlation method for measuring particle concentration. Please email rob.rhyder@nivus.com should you wish to find out more.

@HydrometryEA This looks neat … how much do these cost and do u think they could be retrofitted to storm tanks to measure discharge of dilute effluent during sewage spills? (Asking for a friend!)

We create short videos to help visualise #hydrometry kit in action to help with training. This short video shows an ultrasonic cross correlation device used for measuring discharge, it works by measuring the speed of particles moving in the water from the sensor to the surface

@HydrometryEA Bescot. I trust the Nivus transit time is comparable to the gaugings 😉

Our retired Hydrometry team leader in Devon @masopelm26 is proof you never loose the wonder of being by the river… plenty of water about in the south west today. I suspect Paul could probably give a reasonably accurate visual estimate 🙂…
Paul Mason@masopelm26

River Exe at Blackaller Weir in Exeter always looks impressive when river flows are raised. From a professional viewpoint it’s going out to measure these high flows that I miss the most since retirement. But being able to pop into the adjacent pub is some consolation #hydrometry
