Work on site to minimise odour from Lower Compton landfill in #Calne is underway. Soil cover is now in place ahead of permanent capping of this area scheduled to start on 11 May. Our officers are out throughout the bank holiday weekend monitoring odour in the area.

Our officers have been carrying out drone surveys at Lower Compton Landfill in #Calne, using thermal imaging to identify any landfill gas hotspots that may be causing odour. Hills have now completed works to cover the operational area with soil, with further action planned.

Our officers are on site near Okehampton Station assessing a diesel spillage following last night's rail accident. We're working with @networkrail to contain the spill and minimise environmental impact.

A flood warning has been issued for the South Devon coast at #Beesands, #Torcross, #Slapton and #Dawlish. High tides, strong winds and large waves are expected to cause flooding overnight. Avoid coastal roads, footpaths and carparks, which may be flooded.

⚠️ Naturally formed blue-green algae has been detected in the Exeter Flood Relief Channel. It’s toxic to people and pets - do not enter the water and keep animals well clear. Dead fish may unfortunately be present due to reduced oxygen levels caused by the algae.
