My educated guess on why a point was deducted in Dober/Prepolec, but not Malott/Holland comes down to the placement of the strike. Dober lands right up the middle, clearly to the groin. Malott lands on the beltline with the momentum shifting the cup upwards, which is what causes the lingering pain/discomfort. I'm not saying that it's right or wrong that there was no deduction, but that is why, as someone who has taken multiple refereeing courses, that there was not one in this case versus the one earlier. Just food for thought, whether or not you agree is at your discretion.
