My 17 year old daughter has told me that her social media will be getting switched off at 8:30pm. I’ve no idea how she knows the time or what will actually happen, but, she’s allowed to drive. But she can’t view social media after 8:30pm? I told her I wasn’t going to do any digital ID verification BS, sorry, but no. She said, I wouldn’t have let you anyway Mum. No chance. She said she has already figured out a way around it and all her friends have been finding solutions too. There is hope.

I am going to say this bluntly You are a FAILURE as parents if you can't keep you child off social media yourself YOU bought them the phone YOU can confiscate it during homework YOU are the parent, NOT Keir Starmer Authoritarian ban for your "convenience" is not the answer

For those sucking up and regurgitating all the misinformation because it suits the narratives that outrage you: 1) YouTube is not being banned. The under-16 friendly version remains available. Content design for adults does not. 2) BlueSky has not been exempted. No definitive list has been published yet. Social media was created for adults, not children. Over the years it has been used by more and more by children to access unsuitable, addictive and damaging content. Mental health issues in kids has accellerated sharply since they began regularly accessing this content, including a 50% rise in suicide rates over just 10 years. If you are outraged by legislation designed to provide significant protection for children, then you are the problem, not the legislation.

🚨🗣️New: Luis Suárez reacts to Uruguay’s arrival in the United States for the World Cup, where the squad faced sniffer dogs and rigorous security checks: “I’ve been in football a long time, and I’ve seen tournaments all over the world. But what we’re witnessing here with the USA hosting this World Cup is deeply concerning. Take the Uruguay team arriving — world-class players like Manuel Ugarte, standing there with arms folded, looking utterly bewildered as sniffer dogs go through their bags like they’re common criminals. That image says it all. These are ambassadors of the game, not suspects at the border. This isn’t hospitality; it’s humiliation dressed up as security. You’ve got a Somali referee, one of Africa’s best, denied entry despite a valid visa — a man who dreamed of officiating at the pinnacle of his career, turned away at the airport. African and South American delegations facing extra screenings, visa chaos for fans and officials from qualified nations. This is the ‘land of the free’ rolling out the red carpet? It feels more like a fortress with razor wire. The beautiful game deserves better than being turned into a political football or a paranoid checkpoint. FIFA chased the dollars — and there are billions to be made, no doubt — but they’ve sold the soul of the tournament to a host that treats global football stars and supporters like potential threats. Meanwhile, American taxpayers and host cities are left holding a bill running into hundreds of millions for security and logistics that FIFA largely pockets. Football has always been about unity, passion, and bringing people together across borders. Right now, under this hosting, it’s being strangled by suspicion and overreach. The world is watching these scenes and cringing. If this continues, it risks leaving a bitter taste that lingers far longer than any on-pitch glory. We needed a celebration of the game — not a showcase of division. Something has to change.”

@CBullRun13 @l_shoes @Craig_J_85 Precisely the problem. Previously they where actually for the players in extremely hot conditions and very rare. Now theyre stopping games in airco’d stadiums and waiting for the afs to complete before resuming. Completely different things

@SanderOnChain @l_shoes @Craig_J_85 They came from UEFA. Both EPL and La Liga use them. Whether it was players bc heat or the leagues for ad revenue, idk, but this wasnt created for the US WC, been around for over a decade, just never universal for every game.

What I want after this world cup is over. 1. USA to NEVER host a World Cup. 2. Infantino to be booted out. 3. Hydration Breaks to never occur when temperatures are at a certain level. 4. Ticket prices to be capped at a reasonable amount. 5. USA to NEVER host a World Cup.

@CBullRun13 @SanderOnChain @Craig_J_85 My understanding is that water breaks for FIFA tourneys in general started mostly from European players who complained that they couldn't handle the heat.

@SanderOnChain @ESCKieran03 Yeah... About that... Says the guy who can't take away devices from their children and blames others for their own kids being raised wrong. You're a loser. A waste. You're a pathetic parent.

@SanderOnChain @ESCKieran03 Who gives a fuck what meta, x, Reddit, google want? You're in control when you're a parent. A good parent watches the content with their kids, gets invested, is present. Your mom checked your closet when you were younger. Check their browsing history. You're the big brother.

"You decide where they look" assumes a fair fight: one parent against thousands of engineers and a recommendation engine A/B-tested to hold a child's attention. It isn't a fair fight, and that's the whole point. "Just parent better" is the same line tobacco ran for decades. Meta's own employees compared what they were building to tobacco companies, in writing. And the tell: the people building these products tend to keep their own kids off them. A former Meta executive testified that leadership restricted their own children while internally treating 13 to 17 year olds as a "vulnerable but very valuable" demographic. If the fix were just better parenting, the builders wouldn't be quietly protecting their own kids from the product they sell. Personal responsibility matters. It just doesn't absolve a product engineered to defeat it. Also: Fuck you very much

@SanderOnChain @ESCKieran03 Why are you leaving kids along with tech? Why are you letting kids explore content online without being present? Of course they want eyes. As a parent you decide where they look. Again... It shows me that you don't know how to parent kids and I hope you don't have any.

Dipshit, go read the discovery in the Meta teen-addiction case (In re: Social Media Adolescent Addiction, N.D. Cal.). Straight from Meta's own internal chats about going after preteens, where a staffer compared it to Big Tobacco: "we have to hook them young" You can't toggle a parental control to fix a product their own employees compared to cigarettes. It's in their files, not my opinion. And Zuckerberg got cross-examined on these exact documents in court.
