Meta is building a prediction market. It won't use real money - and that's the whole story.
Polymarket and Kalshi spent two years and millions in legal fees fighting to call themselves "markets" instead of "gambling."
Kentucky just sued them. Eleven states issued cease-and-desists. The CFTC is drafting rules to ban half their contracts.
Meta looked at all of that and built the version with no money in it.

The regulatory wall that's been the entire battle for @Polymarket and @Kalshi doesn't apply to a points game. Meta skips the lawsuits, keeps the engagement loop, and owns distribution nobody else can touch.
Real-money prediction markets spent the cycle proving the demand exists. The company with 3.5 billion users just took notes and built the version regulators can't touch.
The edge was never the payout. It was the distribution.

I TESTED 21 SIGNALS TO BEAT THIS MARKET. I ALSO CAUGHT MYSELF CHEATING 5 TIMES
After proving the price is efficient, I went hunting for one signal it missed. Twenty-one of them. Here's the graveyard, and then the uncomfortable part: the times my own analysis lied to me.
Signals tested, all dead (separability under the noise line):
- spoofing and market-maker walls
- price acceleration and impulse
- distance from strike as its own signal
- path jaggedness
- slope before entry
- early vs late entry
- order flow from four major exchanges
- flow reversal, flow acceleration
- autocorrelation between windows (48%, the windows are independent)
I even threw all seven strongest into one model. It handed almost all the weight to a single variable: where the price already sits. Seven signals turned out to be one price wearing different clothes.
Now the honest part. Five times I thought I'd found an edge. Five times it was a mirage:
- "EV +172%" was look-ahead leaking the answer in
- "fade the flow, +19%" was three outliers dragging the mean, median was a flat loss
- "100% win rate in some hours" was late entries where the outcome was already decided
- "up beats down" was an illusion from 11 trades
The lesson that mattered most: my own outcome log was wrong 15% of the time versus the true on-chain result. Early analysis was built on bad ground. Verify against settlement, always.
