Former Deputy U.S. Marshal Cory Novick was stripped of his career, not because of misconduct, but because he told the truth. While serving as a Deputy Marshal, Novick testified in the high-profile prosecution of MPD officer Terence Suttonโ€”a case that depended on portraying Suttonโ€™s conduct as reckless and indifferent. But Novick, called as a government witness, did what every law enforcement officer is sworn to do: He testified truthfully. His testimony was consistent with standard policing practice and directly undermined the narrative federal prosecutors wanted to advance. For that, Novick paid the price. Shortly after his testimony, and without warning, explanation, or any record of disciplinary issues, Novick was abruptly placed on the so-called โ€œLewis listโ€ โ€” a secretive designation of officers whose credibility the government claims is impaired. Placement on that list ended his service with the U.S. Marshals. He was never given notice. Never given a hearing. Never even told the factual basis for the action. This was retaliation โ€” plain and simple โ€” for testimony that conflicted with a political prosecution. The decision came during the Biden Administration, under the leadership of the U.S. Attorneyโ€™s Office for the District of Columbia. In their drive to secure convictions in the Sutton case, prosecutors abused the Lewis list as a weapon against one of their own witnesses, effectively ending a law enforcement officerโ€™s career for doing the right thing. If this stands, the precedent is devastating: any officer who testifies truthfully but fails to support the governmentโ€™s case can be destroyed. That is not justice. That is politics. And it sends a chilling message to every law enforcement officer who might be called to the stand. Cory Novickโ€™s record speaks for itself. He served as a Metropolitan Police officer, a Calvert County Deputy Sheriff, and later as a Deputy U.S. Marshal. He has no history of misconduct. His only โ€œoffenseโ€ was telling the truth. This is a gross miscarriage of justice. The misuse of the Lewis list to retaliate against a government witness is as dangerous as it is unlawful. Novick deserves reinstatement, restoration of his career, and full exoneration. Anything less rewards political abuse and undermines the very foundation of the justice system.

Are they trying to say that no one saw anything when a person was lynched in DC?! Outside a police station? How could the COPS miss that in the hyper surveilled capitol? It's almost like the call is coming from inside the house

Good for Mayor Bowser for doing what the D.C. Council has failed to do to stop these teen takeovers. The fact that they voted 9 to 4 to not come back to institute a discretionary curfew shows just how out of touch they are with the community.
Mayor Muriel Bowser@MayorBowser

We're reinstating the limited juvenile curfew in Washington, DC. Effective tonight, all youth under 18 are subject to an 11PM curfewโ€”which will extend through 5/1. Designated zones will be subject to an 8PM curfew as determined by the Chief of Police.

Every ridiculous, hare brained โ€œsolutionโ€ you have proposed over the past six years has been a miserable failure and has only resulted in 1000s of more victims of crime. Maybe you should sit the next few plays out.
ACLU of the District of Columbia@ACLU_DC

The D.C. Council is once again considering enacting emergency legislation that would expand the District's juvenile curfew. We can't keep turning to policing as the solution to every issue. Tell the D.C. Council to stop over policing District youth: secure.ngpvan.com/0C_IuBQWvUeVmlโ€ฆ

Thank You, President Trump!ย  These changes to the tax code recognize the sacrifices our officers make every single day.ย  No more taxing the extra hours they work. No more taxing the benefits they earned after a lifetime of service. This is real, tangible support for the brave men and women who run toward danger while others run away and we have President Trump to thank.

For years there have been complaints and concerns around ATVs and dirt bikes on D.C. streets, and the city has tried lots of things: impounding them ahead of time, sharing images of their users in hopes of finding them, etc. Yet the issue persists, and now this.
7News DC@7NewsDC

Police said that just before 7 p.m., a group of middle schoolers was riding in the bike lane on 14th Street when a group of men on dirt bikes and ATVs ran them over, then left the children bleeding in the street. bit.ly/4mdowwb

Not only is this TERF Karen upset about Black boys being free to ride ATVs and dirt bikes (notice the word โ€œgangsโ€), she goes on to thank Trump for pardoning convicted DC cop, who murdered Karon Hylton-Brown and then covered it up!
Lyndsey Fifield@lyndseyfifield

Whenever I complained about the ATV dirt bike gangs that sped around and terrorized everyone, locals said they were harmless and I didnโ€™t understand the culture. Cops werenโ€™t allowed to stop them. And that was a decade ago.

Honored to be with the Maryland Municipal League Police Executive Committee this week. @LELDF_President had the opportunity to highlight the work LELDF is doing to support law enforcement officers across the country. Grateful for these strong leaders.

There is nothing more disingenuous that someone suggesting @Janeese4DC cares one iota about public safety or policing, or that she cares about โ€œworkers rights.โ€ She voted to eliminate collective bargaining rights for 3,500 employees.

Reason #2 why I support @Janeese4DC Smart, pragmatic leadership.Never compromises her values to please a majority, but she listens to all sides to find practical solutions. She's fighting for MPD autonomy from ICE and workers' rights and fair wages, - putting people first.

ICE arrested nearly 20,000 people in the DMV. The DC "Safe and Beautiful" Task Force arrested another 10,000 since August. Many charges get thrown out of court. But not before people lose their jobs, their housing. The process is the punishment. buff.ly/mJ5BaNm

@Sutton4Justice The MPD's own General Orders prohibit high-speed chases for minor traffic infractions like riding on a sidewalk w/o a helmet. Even if the victim was "armed," the jury concluded that the decision to engage in a high-speed, wrong-way chase was "conscious disregard" for human life
