@PrayTheRosary Yeah, I idly voice political opinions, but don't really engage much anymore. I find it pulls me away from my faith and I'd much rather just keep things to myself and let Jesus work it out however He sees fit.

@MitraHispana You're not wrong and it is a fascinating history. I got the opportunity to visit Madrid and Barcelona for a job I had about 10 years ago and the two weeks I was there was not nearly enough time. I hope to go back someday.

The Spanish Reconquista is a FASCINATING historical period I’ve had the pleasure of studying for years, both formally and informally 😀 🇪🇸 Here are a few common misconceptions! 1) “The Reconquista was one amazing war!” No, it was not. It was nearly 800 years of on again, off again, conflict between Christians and Islamic polities, with periods of shaky truce and fragile peace in between. Imagine a game of “tug of war” lasting for centuries! When Muslims were strong, their borders crept north. When Christians were strong, they pushed south. Borders were always subject to “debate” at the point of a sword! To put this in perspective, the United States has only existed nearly 250 years, and only been the undisputed world superpower for about 40 years. In contrast, the Caliphate of Córdoba lasted 100 years as the dominant power on the Iberian peninsula, to the point where general Almanzor (al-Mansūr, in Arabic) sacked Galicia and stole the church bells from Santiago de Compostela and brought them to Córdoba as a trophy. (Christians reclaimed them many years later). 2) “Christians won victory after victory easily until all the Moors were crushed.” Not quite. The Moors had capable commanders and a strong martial tradition too. The fact that it took 800 years is proof it wasn’t “easy” for either side. One notable Christian defeat was the battle of Sagrajas in 1086, where Berber Almoravids routed the army of Castile and put King Alfonso VI to flight, forcing him to beg El Cid to fight for him again, “with his tail between his legs”. 3) “The Moors were all one thing.” Not at all! The Moors were a heterogeneous mix of Muslim, Christian, and Jewish peoples. Arabs, Berbers, but also Muwalladūn (European converts to Islam) and Mozarabs (Arabic speaking Christians). Moorish political leaders always had to balance relations between different races and religions. 4) “Christians and Moors all hated each other. While getting along perfectly with people of their own religion” It’s complicated! There was absolutely ethnic prejudice and cruel violence on both sides. But there were also sometimes long periods of (relative!) harmony and coexistence. Christian and Moorish leaders often allied with each other *against other* Christians and Muslims. El Cid, the famous Castilian knight from Burgos, fought alongside Muslims for years, and even ruled over them in Valencia with tolerance. Likewise, Christian rivals still fought Christians, and Muslim rivals still fought Muslims. Leaders were often more pragmatic than ideological. Between the rising Christian kingdoms of Castile and Aragon, moorish leaders would “watch and wait”, cynically opting to support the weaker party to prolong the fighting. Other times, Christian powers fought to ensure their preferred moorish leaders won a succession to the throne! I hope you all feel inspired to read about the real Reconquista too! It’s more than just a meme for social media 😊 🙏🏼

If you think the West is lost, remember this: Spain was under Islamic rule for over 700 years. The Reconquista began with 200 men in the mountains. It took centuries of hard-fought struggle, but we were ultimately victorious. It is never truly over. We will prevail again.

One statement says Jesus IS the center of Christianity, the other describes Jesus as the center of Christianity. Oddly, we shouldn't separate them from each other.

Let's be clear. Anti-Semitism, which is a hatred rooted in ethnic or religious reasons, is evil. However, disagreement with the political and military actions of the modern state of Israel is not that.
U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops@USCCB

Catholics are called to reject antisemitism and the lies and conspiracies that fuel it, and to stand clearly against hatred and violence directed toward our Jewish brothers and sisters. To defend religious freedom with integrity, we must also reject antisemitism. @ArchbishpSample @archdpdx Watch the full video at: ow.ly/sYF550Yw6cA

@TemporalStrife @BishopJaxi I made a point and you were only able to think through one side of the argument. If you don't want me to treat you like a child, don't think like one. Protestantism is closer to a basic understanding and interpretation of scripture. Catholicism is often mental gymnastics.

Sola Scriptura is functionally "Scripture according to my interpretation," backed by whatever men agree with me. It is the exaltation of private judgment over the Bible, reinforced by other men who share that same judgment. Every time a Protestant declares something to be "biblical," he is either appealing to his own interpretation of the text or to heretics like John MacArthur to validate that interpretation.

@CptPatriotUSA @BishopJaxi That's the interesting caveat, is it not? Your interpretation of scripture is somehow more "correct" than the Catholic Church's? No need to be insulting with the "try to keep up" comment - that's simply childish behavior.

@BishopJaxi You do realize that the Roman Church has the same problem, right? The difference is Protestantism stays true to the scriptures, where RCs rely completely on man's interpretation.

The point is, Biblically, the connection between the living and the "dead" is not severed as some Protestant and Evangelical theologians surmise. Rather, our lives can have an impact on them (COME FORTH), and be impacted by them (Heb. 11-12). Newman's "Illative Sense" can be helpful here - "It only follows that..." (this is what your illative sense says...) - if we are connected to the degree that we can raise, them, and they can cheer us on, then a little thing like asking them to pray for us isn't hard to embrace. Why? Because that's what they're doing anyway -- (cf. Rev. 6:9-11). Heaven is not that far away.

Catholic aggression! Why do so many Catholics behave so aggressively online? Why are they so militant against anything that challenges their world view? Why aren’t these popular influencers especially Catholic organizations calling out Candace Owens and others for their UnChristian-like behavior?

That depends on if you distinguish between “The Church” and “individuals who make up The Church”. I truly believe Jesus when he proclaimed that the gates of hell will not prevail against the Church, but it doesn’t mean that there will not be attacks by Satan on the Church through individual members. So we can absolutely be critical of human actions. Just my thoughts on the matter.
