I don’t know what the answer is or if anyone agrees or has any counter opinions but to me there seems to be a disconnect between phenomenal online support for indie/upcoming bands and actually supporting with live gigs. I’ve been to two gigs recently, both with incredible artists and the turnout has been very, very low. I know money is tight and there’s travel and parking to consider but these were FREE gigs. -Is it purely money? -Are people turned off by others conduct at gigs (I know I am) -Is the promo for these gigs off kilter? -Or are we just all getting a little lazy and too used to supporting our favourite bands behind our headphones? I’ve even seen some bands have to cancel gigs because of low pre sales. And then I see a lot of people moaning that their favourite indie band aren’t getting slots at the bigger festivals but when they do perform somewhere smaller, hardly anyone turns up? The gig I went to yesterday was two incredible artists, great songs, great charisma but a very low turnout and again it was FREE! I know there’s loads of you out there who go well above and beyond support so this is most definitely not aimed at you but where is everyone else? Not judging, asking Genuinely interested because these bands we want to see succeed need the turnout. They should have been turning people away yesterday for the opportunity to see these two bands. And then next time, this venue says sorry you’re too big for us and they move up the ladder. If the physical support isn’t there I can’t see how the press or powers that be at festivals etc get wind of it🤷‍♂️ Interested to know what people think
