#Followthemoney. UACN has an interesting ecosystem, and today we focus on one of its strategic investments - UPDC.
UPDC is a real estate development and advisory company, and UACN owns 40% in UPDC. However, UACN been silently disposing of some of its shares in UPDC as disclosed in note 34 of its FS.
During the year, they made a gain of N475m from disposing of UPDC shares. Despite the sale, UPDC still holds significant influence and own 40% of UPDC shares. Could this be a case of locking in profit or a strategic shift from UPDC.
📌UPDC is led by Odunayo Ojo, former CEO of Alaro City, and ex Vice President at Ocean and Oil Holdings.
📌In 2025,UPDC share price has increased astronomically from N1.39 in Jan 2025 to all time high of N8.49 per share in August 2025. Currently, the shares is trading at N5.2, being a 271% gain since Jan 2025.
📌UPDC has declared revenue of N9.6bn as at Q3 2025 representing a 93% increase in revenue from N5bn at Q3 2024. In FY 2024, UPDC total revenue was N11bn indicating they might surpass their PY revenue by year end 2025.
📌UPDC has a solid balance sheet, with total asset of N23bn. Their interest bearing loan is N2.7bn compared to their total cash of N17bn.
📌One of UPDC's largest investment is the Golden Tulip hotel in Festac Lagos and Festival Mall which hosts Shoprite.
📌UPDC is also currently constructing the Brompton city in Lekki phase II, a residential property that sits on 30 hecters of Land. UPDC acquired this land for N7.2bn in 2024.
📌UPDC is yet to fully pay for the land to be used for phases 1, 2 & 3 of Brompton City and is owing N9.7bn in this regard.
📌UPDC is the owner of UPDC REITs, one of the best dividend paying companies on the NGX.
📌UPDC is currently involved in 31 court cases with total claim of N19.1bn against the company. The directors of UPDC are of the opinion that none of the cases with materialise.
Do you think UACN is merely locking in gain on their investment from this disposal or are there indicators of a strategic shift.

@____Yaks You can't invest in the stock market if you don't have a business or job that generates enough money to invest consistently in the stock market.

@____Yaks Nope. Not really.
I’m in some form of transitional phase, so I need to hold more cash for now. Will be back in a few months.
Plus I mostly do my investing during pay periods(monthly).

Those 70% - 400% returns you’re getting on NGX are unusual. The market is simply repricing the impact of the degradation experienced by our economy and currency in the last decade. Soon markets will stabilise to the typical 10% - 30% annual return.
Don’t start investing expecting such huge returns forever, however by all means grab this bonanza while it lasts.

The evidence abounds, investing in great companies over the long term always pays.
Anyone who says otherwise is simply being mischievous.

I started my investment journey in 2021 with N10k in AIICO. Today I still put every 20k i can find into the market and my portfolio is smiling. Don’t let anyone discourage you from starting small. The market needs consistency, discipline and research. Compounding will do the rest.
