The idea that children will somehow lead inferior lives if they don’t spend their free time reading paperbacks, may not be true.

@BarryNSmith79 Need to be honest about learner engagement, sir. Kids don’t ask to go to the toilet if they are fully engaged. I find though that by allowing teachers to let kids go to the loo I am provided with data about whose lessons need to be learning-walked. 👍

If more people outside of education could see what can happen inside schools, there would be a much bigger constituency for change. Part of the problem is that people outside the sector find it hard to grasp how challenging it is to manage a room with 25 children when some of them don’t care to do as they are asked.

No. English Literature does not need to be ‘more diverse’… Shakespeare, Austen, Dickens, Hardy, Orwell, Tolkien: who cares if they’re white?!? Classic English Literature is one of the best in the world, defines our culture and has inspired many contemporary writers. And the writing is just beautiful. Schools are failing kids if they don’t teach them because they’re deemed too difficult or not diverse enough (whatever that nonsense means!). More dumbing down from Labour.
Sky News@SkyNews

Campaigners are calling on the government to make English literature in schools more inclusive and representative, as Lit in Colour says the move to make it more inclusive is too slow. Sky's Anjum Peerbacos reports. 🔗 trib.al/Cyx9uOs

A lot of the very loud voices against suspension / exclusion appear to come from very biased & often ill informed positions. Many of them haven’t run schools.

We’re teaching children to see struggle as signs of mental ill health. In doing so, schools risk becoming places of emotional management rather than intellectual growth, thus becoming traumagenic. What if suffering is a sane response to adversity, not a condition to be treated? Link below ⬇️

My daughter came back from school and told us she learned that George Washington owned slaves. Do liberals think this an appropriate lesson for a 2nd year law school student?

@RealConorOil @waltermasterson SO YOU have NO PROBLEM with WHITE PEOPLE OWNING other Human beings. NICE TO KNOW. A 2nd YEAR LAW STUDENT is NOT A SECOND GRADER. Your READING COMPREHENSION is LACKING, and that is a UNDERSTATEMENT No wonder YOU are so CONFUSED, you DO NOT COMPREHEND THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE.

@waltermasterson The Founding Fathers were Trump-loving, Republican patriots and did nothing wrong. 2nd graders shouldn't be learning any of that woke bullshit!!

‘The Rest is History’ is history as it should be. Dominic Sandbrook and Tom Holland talk about the past as it was – messy, complex, human – without the usual finger-wagging or performative outrage. It is the tonic Britain needs right now, says Miriam Cates. buff.ly/g7rTb68
