What exactly is "off the clock?" You work for a passionate start-up you should be excited to exchange ideas and information. Govt. has *zero* business in this... and clearly has no idea what it takes to build anything at all. This is beyond stupid.
The San Francisco Standard@sfstandard

Late-night messages from work are never fun. But a new law proposed by Assemblymember Matt Haney would make off-the-clock emails illegal if they aren’t emergencies. sfstandard.com/2024/04/01/han…

Yes, Seattle is expensive now, and yes, Canlis is fancy, but this burger 'n' fries costs a LOT. Food critic Bethany Jean Clement judges: worth it or no way? st.news/43SDYUs

If you want to understand @ZachWLambert's positions on everything else, you need to understand that he is a Universalist. From this, flows everything else.
Zach W. Lambert@ZachWLambert

@TomBuck Yes, I believe the most faithful reading of Scripture is that all people will eventually be reconciled to God through Jesus. It’s called Universal Reconciliation through Christ. If you’re interested in learning more about it, I’d be happy to recommend some books/articles.

Everyone thinks that their list of best restaurants is the best. This is why there should be no best restaurants lists.

@RebekahDenn @jlazarus001 Yes! I’m on a Sanderson kick right now. Knocked down storm light, then mistborn, now reading Elantris. All so so good.

Currently reading book 4 of the Wheel of Time series and I would like to sincerely apologize to George RR Martin for all the times I wished he would just get to the point.

@chefpmistry I disagree with Dana - it’s not the end of all global fine dining, just the unhealthy unsustainable kind. And that’s a good thing.

@kh @ReadExpedite If any business cannot afford to pay its staff and relies on free labor, then by definition it is not a business. Generalizing a single restaurant's failure to create a good business across the whole industry is, frankly, insulting to many that do it well and ethically.

@nickkokonas @uncle_chaddy Right? You should write an op-ed. I'd happily read it. The math is simple, but often restaurant owners seem to turn the other way.

@bcanlis @uncle_chaddy Correct. The 20 seat place *could* be an adjunct to a bigger place if you don’t mind losing money on it to gain reputation. It’s easy to walk into any restaurant and see what the potential bottom line is. But I never see that article.

Also, it IS possible to be great and still take care of your team. Indeed, it may be that only by taking care of your people is greatness truly sustainable. Here’s to all those willing to try. 2/2

Big news today about one of our favorite restaurants in the world--wishing @ReneRedzepiNoma all the best on his journey. There are two true narratives here: Without question, sustainable fine dining is a tough nut to crack, and there is much work to be done. 1/2

@nickkokonas @uncle_chaddy I'm shocked how often I hear of a young chef's dream being a tiny 20 seat restaurant that serves very expensive food. A near impossible model. Something has to give.

@uncle_chaddy Now work backwards.... how much are your fixed costs (lease, insurance) and your labor costs (people x wages+benefits). See what is left for COGs. In the case of fine dining COGs are high b/c you are using premium ingredients. That's pretty much it frankly... /2

Ummmm. Is this even a question?
Will Ashwood@ashwood_will

@kevinmyoung That's not what the bible teaches but I'm sure you aren't concerned with that. You really want to pretend God is more interested in meeting your neighbors than reading his word? I'm guessing you have took your own advice and not read the Bible.

@cameronstrang It’s shocking how powerful fear can be. It will drive people to insanity. Perhaps it’s why Jesus said Do not be afraid and Fear not more than anything else (at least I think that’s true).

your restaurant, staff, or other patrons. Essentially you are shifting the blame to something else they ate, or that they showed up already inebriated (common!), etc. It's an unfortunate reality now and across the industry.

One of the more difficult -- and now more prevalent -- situations to handle in owning a restaurant: The 'foodborn illness' complaint. First let me state explicitly that it can happen even in a well run restaurant and every complaint is taken seriously. But... /1
