The Yankees offense has been historically bad for almost a month. The scariest part is I don’t think it can really get much better until the trade deadline. Besides Bellinger, there’s no one on the roster who I think is significantly underperforming their true offensive ability.

Jose Caballero will be playing shortstop tonight because the backlash would be too strong if Boone didn’t do it. He might need to hit two more homers if he wants to start tomorrow, though.

Cam Schlittler is the ace. He’ll be taking the ball in our first playoff game, and I can’t wait.

@ChrisCoop_ While it wasn’t the most ethical way of putting it, the consensus of it is what fans are so mad at. How are we in year 4 of this, it’s crazy. That’s what everyone’s furious at and I think that’s a very fair point. The 4 years of Judge’s prime should not be Volpe at shortstop

I'm totally perplexed by this whole thing seriously. I've had a preference for Cab over Volpe for months now, after initially wanting to see Volpe start more than Cab coming into and towards the beginning of the season. But even then, my preference for one over the other can only be so moderate? How are people seriously acting like this is some clear cut, obvious decision for the Yankees to make? Since June 1st (Judge IL): Volpe Cabby AVG .235 .211 OBP .316 .270 SLG .294 .367 wRC+ 77 76 K% 22.1% 28.7% BB% 10.5% 6.5% OAA (SS) +4 0 FRV (SS) +3 0 I just don't really understand what the whole stink over this is about? I have a slight preference for Cabby because I think he has an easier time lifting the ball in the air, driving in RBIs when presented the opportunity to do so, has more pop in his swing this year, and brings an extra edge to his game. But it's definitely not a deal breaker by any means like people are making it seem. I think it's ridiculous people shade the Yankees for thinking this decision is clear. Especially for shading the Yankees for opting for the statistically better defender this year at SS in favor of using the utility player as a utility player when there were so many injuries. This is why people say Volpe Derangement Syndrome. Nobody is here to say he's a good player; he's not a good player and deserves loads of criticism. It's disproportional, completely inexplicable degrees of criticism catered entirely around him and decisions about him when the other options aren't as clear cut as made seem.

@ChrisCoop_ I think it just comes down to oversaturation. We’re in Year 4 of running out a poor offensive shortstop, so fans are frustrated. Same thing with Boone in Year 9. Not saying it’s justified, but it’s fair to vent about those two when things are going bad.

Fans aren’t just upset, they’re absolutely beyond belief livid. They make it the first point of contention they have with the team every day and it’s just so not even close to the degree of an issue people make it seem. Like I said I need no convincing about this debate, I prefer cabby at SS too. But my preference for one over the other is only marginal at most…

I also prefer Cabby to Volpe, & want to see more of Yonvanny. But these two topics take up like 90% of #Yankees fans/media mindspace, and neither are likely very meaningful. Volpe’s pacing for like 4 fWAR per 162, and Cruz’s AAA numbers are meh. 🤷‍♂️ There are bigger problems.

@_24kin Yes… I believe there is a shortstop on the roster that is better defensively and at base running. The arm with Volpe is really just what I can’t get behind. They could’ve capitalized on his range and put him at 2B but the Yankees are too stubborn. Platoon him w Jazz

@bronxtalkscb Sure, but then you’re ignoring 2 parts of the game that Volpe has excelled in, and good defense at a premium position is incredibly valuable

@_24kin Ah I see what you mean, should’ve said offensive production. I’m kinda just not on board with the using fWAR to defend Volpe though. Saw a post that showed how he accumulated more fWAR than Cano through their first 4 years. Doesn’t feel fair, I’d rather Cano

@bronxtalkscb It’s probably true, but they’re talking about production and production includes defense and base running. Both of those factor into fWAR, if you use fWAR, this statement of production is completely false
