Her name is Brenda Deutsch. She is 70 years old and lives in Winfield, Missouri. Deutsch sent the eighth-grade girl to a family in Texas in exchange for the monkey. The child was later left with another family who couldn’t care for her and ended up with Child Protective Services. She had been left alone for extended periods. The girl told investigators Deutsch had been abusing her for years: hitting her in the face, whacking her with a paddle, smacking her until she bled, and threatening to kill her. In one incident, Deutsch had a family member hold the girl down while she pulled down her pants and spanked her with a paddle. She also called the girl a “b**ch,” “annoying,” and “rude.” The girl spent nine months in a residential psychiatric facility after Deutsch called police when she tried to run away.
