1 in 37 Americans have COVID. This means that there are ~300K ppl who have COVID right now that will develop long COVID, just as I did. This is what it's like to get long COVID as a healthy young person, and what treatments are available when you have $$ and great insurance:

Okay, let’s talk about “learning loss”. (H/t @McKinsey) US high school test scores (ACT) are out - they’ve fallen steeply for the 4th year in a row. Now at their lowest level in 30yrs. Let’s look at the data & the media narrative and weigh potential explanations, shall we? (1/)

In 13 days, barring any (knock on wood) emergencies, my son and I are taking a National Geographic/Lindblad trip to the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia, and the Falklands, a life-long dream trip and a much-needed vacation. Stay tuned for photos and general over-enthusiasm!

“We first sent to a Nature journal, and within 24 h, they rejected it as an incremental contribution. I started learning English only at university, so I had to look up the meaning of the word incremental!” Katalin Karikó, in 2021, on her paper that led to a Nobel Prize today.

Investing the same money in utility PV instead of nuclear not only produces 5.3x the total energy but also 15.9x the peak power Also eliminates meltdown risk, weapons prolif risk, nuc waste, underground U-mining cancers, & 2-40x the CO2e emis/kWh as nuc web.stanford.edu/group/efmh/jac…
Mark Z. Jacobson@mzjacobson

So, when anyone says "we need new nuclear," just reply "investing the same money instead in solar PV produces 5.3 x the energy over 65 years" That is due to the higher capital cost (15.7 x) and longer delays between planning + operation (17-20 y vs 1-3 y) of nuclear

So... 5% of fifteen year old school children in England missed HALF their classes this last year. On a totally unrelated subject, people have been wondering what percentage of children develop Long Covid.

The only two things I wish I’d done as soon as I realized I had Long Covid: 1) rested as much as possible and 2) sought aggressive medical treatment. Literally every single other thing I’ve done over the past 3.5 years was a waste of time and, in most cases, actively harmful.

Today was the pinnacle in terms of witnessing the impact of COVID-19 denial for me. I sat in my student's exam and only 1 other person had a mask. People looked at me like I was crazy. The good news is that the ventilation was good based on CO2 levels when I walked in. (1/4)
