@FullingSteve @DschaeferDaniel My father said exactly the same thing, electricity. Think about all that happened after that in the 1930s - tractors, hybrids, NPK, herbicides, insecticides, global exports… still electricity is what changed the farm for the better.

I was in Champaign for a deal that Orion Samuelson spoke at. After he was finished, I went out to the lobby and he was selling his book. I asked if he minded if I shook the hand of one of the most prominent voices in ag. I then asked, " what was the biggest positive change you can remember coming to your farm?" Without hesitation, he replied, " electricity." Something I had never lived without was a life changing event for him and his family.

For some context/clues around WH Ag event next week, invites went out in early March and include groups with no real connection to biofuels. Groups are being asked to bring some 20 farmers supportive of Trump's agenda, sources tell me.

Here's a photo of WGN farm broadcaster Orion Samuelson from the @NAFB Archives. He served as the Association's president in 1965. The other picture shows WBBM Chicago Farm Broadcaster George Menard passing the gavel to Samuelson. Both are in the NAFB Hall of Fame.

Those of us lucky enough to be Orion's @NAFB colleagues are heartbroken today. I spent many a Farm Progress Show organizing the University of Illinois stage for Orion. He will always hold a special place at @UofIllinois, @ACESIllinois, @ILextension, @farmdocDaily and @Illinois4H.
