@Anthony_Chiang Wouldn’t the Heat still be able to trade the drafted player as long as he has not signed his contract? I recall something similar happening with the Rudy Goebert trade. Wolves drafted Kessler and traded him to the Jazz along with multiple picks.

There’s always a new deadline. And that new deadline for Milwaukee (if draft passes without Giannis trade) could be finding deal before start of next season. This wouldn’t be ideal for Heat, which can throw in a third first-round pick into trade offer only before next week’s draft.
Heat Central@HeatCulture13

Chris Haynes on Giannis: “From what I’m hearing this could drag on into free agency. This could drag on until July…. Boston seems a little bit from what I’m hearing and gauging, Boston doesn’t seem a promising destination…. I do still believe he will be moved this offseason but I’m not as certain as I was before that it’d be done before the draft”

@wcgoldberg Heat have advanced to the NBA Finals every time they acquired a superstar level talent. Over the last 20 years, they’ve done it with Shaq, LeBron/Bosh, Jimmy The roster may not truly contend the first season but by year 2 they’ll be ready. Heat know how to build around talent.

The Heat don’t have a championship level roster with Giannis…(but coming) BUT They have a proven track record of building competitive rosters around star players. That’s the sales pitch to Giannis, who I’m sure is looking to extend with a team that can remain competitive for years. If all you’re doing is looking at the roster that day after a Giannis trade then you’re missing the point.

@BobbyKrivitsky Adding some context, Giannis is extension eligible w/ Bucks starting Oct 1. If he is traded, he becomes extension eligible 6 months from the trade date. So if Giannis is traded on draft night (June 23), he cannot sign an extension until Christmas/New Years

@cease25 @DannyMarang MIN pick is #28 because DET has swap rights. Not exactly a premier pick in this draft.

Would MIL want the most draft capital or want a guy like Jaden to restart with? If they flipped Jaden/Naz for their picks back, seems like it would give them the biggest asset return where they get a couple young guys AND draft capital that you can be comfortable with imo.

@ToreyJonesYT @KareemRon33 Few teams are better at finding and developing players than Miami. If they acquire Giannis, Heat can resign Wiggins/Norm and still have access to the full MLE, BAE and a $18m TPE. Not saying they’ll be the #1 seed but they have several ways to build the team around Giannis.

If Miami trades for Giannis, Heat fans will feel like they've won the war, but: - That team isn't winning anything meaningful with him - Those Bucks picks will become much more valuable for Portland Portland wins either way.

@ToreyJonesYT A bit of revisionist history. Nobody thought that was a well built team. Other than Dragic, the Jimmy-era team was mostly filled with UDFA Strus, Caled, Gabe, Duncan. Premature to evaluate when no one knows who’d they fill out the roster with.

@ToreyJonesYT They said the same thing when Heat acquired Jimmy. They fell short of a title, but 2 Finals and 3 ECFs is not nothing. Giannis is better than Jimmy was and Bam is better today than he was back then. I trust the Heat to fill out the roster with contributors.

@SamQuinnCBS Assuming Heat whiff on Giannis, do you think pivoting to Kawhi + Ja is viable? Heat may be able to get both at a lower cost than just Giannis.

Now, desperate teams lead to desperate trades. Maybe someone is truly desperate for Kawhi. He's 35, extremely injury-prone, and based on his history, probably not super eager to play in some of the markets that want him. Adjust your trade value expectations accordingly.
clippa twitta@clipfullyloaded

@SamQuinnCBS I’d definitely do it for Mobley, Tyson, and a first But i know the clippers will be able to get a better deal than that in terms of draft capital if they do decide to trade him

@SamQuinnCBS Think a JDub for Bam swap would be even better. Thunder’s paint and perimeter defense would be unfair. Not that the Heat would ever do it.

It’s sadly enormously difficult apron-wise but the Thunder wanted Mobley before his draft and a JDub-for-Mobley sort of trade would address Cleveland’s long-running wing issue. Imagine Chet and Mobley together defensively with all those perimeter guys.

@mph_824_ Watching that epic Thunder/Spurs game 1 made it painfully obvious how far from real contention the Heat are. They were playing a comply different sport!

And yes, I know they won’t listen. They’re probably going to trade everything for Giannis and whatever, and hope that their problems all go away (Giannis rules, but they’re still going to have plenty of problems without as many resources!). Here’s to hoping they adapt!

You need luck, but these playoffs have (once again) revealed that drafting and investing in young players before the peak of their powers, and thus, effective asset management, take precedence over all. I hope the Miami Heat are watching — and watching closely.

@EternalBast @Alf954 One tiny problem… Heat need Wiggins to do them a favor and pickup his player option (June 29). Unsure why he’d do that. Wiggins likely can get more than $30m on a multi-year deal elsewhere.

@Alf954 Also the type of swing with Ja and Kawhi that if they are healthy, great. Even if they arent you still have all of your young pieces still developing, but also the trade with Charlotte for 27 is lottery protected

If I were running the Rockets, I’d change coaches and trade Kevin Durant. Get contending out of your mind next year. This culture needs a reset, and you have to find out what you really have with the young guys. Spend next year evaluating the core in a lower-stakes environment.

With Heat headed to 41-39, Miami will be locked into 10th if 76ers (losing big at Houston) beat Pacers or Bucks and if Hornets beat Pistons or Knicks. (Heat loss to Wizards or Hawks also clinches 10th). All 3 teams play Friday.
