@RomanFisher__ Students are never asked by the school why they missed class. What happens is at about 6pm the parents get an automated message saying the student missed a class and asks them to call the school. I doubt anyone follows up.

Call me crazy, but parents should be fined if their kids are absent from school regularly without a justifiable reason. This whole thing happening in Ontario with attendance feels like neglectful parenting.

@RomanFisher__ Most have ‘justifiable reasons’ though I’m sure that is a case of ymmv. Those who don’t are often struggling and have much bigger issues and they need supports of the school staff and beyond- some don’t even have present parents

I am a practicing Catholic. Have been all my life, waaaayyyy over half a century. But I’ve had it with these damn popes getting political!! Last photo of Neville-Lake family together. Children Daniel (9), Harrison (5) and Milly (2) were k*lled by drunk driver, their dad Harry died 5 years later by s**cide. On September 27, 2015, in Vaughan, Ontario, nine-year-old Daniel, five-year-old Harrison, and two-year-old Milagros (Milly) Neville-Lake were traveling in a minivan driven by their grandmother. Also in the vehicle were their 65-year-old grandfather, Gary Neville, and their great-grandmother. As they proceeded through an intersection, their vehicle was struck at high speed by an SUV that failed to stop at a stop sign. The driver of the SUV was Marco Muzzo, a 29-year-old heir to one of Canada’s wealthiest construction families. Muzzo had just landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport via a private jet following a bachelor party in Miami. At the time of the crash, he was driving with a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit. The impact k*lled all three children and their grandfather, while the two grandmothers survived with serious injuries. In 2016, Muzzo pleaded guilty to four counts of impaired driving causing death and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. His case sparked national outrage regarding the leniency of impaired driving laws, which intensified when he was granted full parole in February 2021 after serving approximately five years of his sentence. The tragedy for the family did not end with the crash. In June 2022, on the day after Father’s Day, the children’s father, Edward Lake, died by s**cide after years of public struggle with the grief of losing his children. Jennifer Neville-Lake, the mother and sole survivor of the immediate family, continues to advocate against impaired driving, though she faced further loss in 2024 when a house fire destroyed her home and the urns containing her children's ashes.
