Happy to explain. Sanctions and controlling an international waterway aren’t the same thing. The Strait of Hormuz is an international passage, it doesn’t belong to Iran, and they don’t get to charge tolls or restrict transit through it. Sanctions, whether you agree with them or not, are economic measures used by countries as part of foreign policy. Trying to control a global shipping chokepoint and charge for access is something entirely different, and far more dangerous. So no, it’s not “power and hypocrisy.” It’s the difference between economic policy and attempting to hold international trade hostage.

Fully agree with Rubio on this. The idea that Iran can just start charging tolls through the Strait of Hormuz is absurd. This isn’t some man-made canal they built and maintain, it’s an international waterway that a huge portion of the world’s energy supply depends on. Trying to control it like a private toll road isn’t just unrealistic, it’s dangerous. Rubio is right to call it out. Moves like that would be a massive escalation and hurt economies around the world, including Iran’s own. This isn’t about politics, it’s about basic reality. You don’t get to hold global shipping hostage and expect the world to accept it.
