This announcement made me really pause and think about my life. So much of twitter is this grind fest about how to capitalize on the ai revolution, spin up a hundred ugc ads and make a million dollars on a vibe-coded app and escape the permanent underclass. One of my best friends died of a heart attack at age 39, leaving behind five kids. He hated medical stuff, never even knew his arteries were slowly clotting toward an early grave. We were photographers together and we played with early versions of Midjourney when it was still a discord bot that made basically abstract art. I remember being awestruck with him, so you think these will ever be on the level of a real photograph? He never got to witness v6, v7, or v8 or the video capabilities of this technology. Midjourney was creating incredible things and making a lot of money with a small team. Living the dream we all have. But then with this announcement, it’s clear that their mission and vision is more expansive than I could have imagined. They will likely save untold lives with this technology. My friend would still be alive if he could avail of this. Makes me stop for a second and question my own motives and my own ambitions. Why am I thinking so small, why am I thinking so selfishly. What would happen if we all started building toward a future like this?

This whole AI shit is so stupid AI will start actually taking jobs away from artists if this continues Not because AI is somehow better than human art On the contrary, I think AI art is soulless and lazy, boring even sometimes. It's been overused and I rather see a piece someone worked and crafted with their hand for 10 hours rather than a piece made by prompt. That being said. I rather spend 10 minutes on a prompt rather than deal with all of this drama because this is EXHAUSTING The only thing that AI excels at is not making any drama while doing a decent job at art too. An artist I adored refused me because we have different views, so instead of paying her money for a piece I really wanted specifically from her I just made something similar in AI. Good job artists, you're killing your own freaking employment by making drama out of a nothing burger.

They cite being "lied" to about the use of AI, as well as being protective of the "artists" and voice actors for whom AI threatens... WHAT ABOUT THE PROGRAMMERS? WHAT ABOUT THE DEVELOPERS? Generative AI today is used universally in the development of software, and has already led to the loss of many software development jobs, especially for junior-entry level jobs. AI is already in every game, software, website, and yes, even on the backend of Twitch. Oh, but it's a different technology. No. Generative AI, whether it's LLMs with Claude code, or AI art-videos uses the same kind of transformer algorithm. AI is already in tons of games, especially in code, and they don't disclose that just because it's not "art assets". Requiring disclosure only for creative tasks, not for programming, is a double standard. You people don't care about other people's livelihood. You only care about the optics of playing a game on stream or taking sponsors NOW that the drama has unfolded into mainstream discourse. But they don't care that AI is used in Nikke art assets. Or that AI was used in E33. Or that AI is used in the software for all the modern games. AI is transforming how work gets done across EVERY creative and tech industry, just like previous tech waves did. Crashing out about the differences between “creative” and “technical” is stupid when both are replacing/augmenting human labor in exactly parallel ways. TLDR... pretending AI in programming is somehow “different” and harmless while AI in art is an existential threat is pure unadulterated hypocrisy.
