It’s actually easier on the engine (and saves gas). Your engine ‘pauses’ right at the top of a pistons firing cycle before your spark plug is commanded to fire. As soon as you press your gas peddle, spark plug ignites and the gas combusts resuming your engines normal running cycle. That’s why there’s no cranking from your starter. There are absolutely zero downsides to this tech under everyday driving circumstances other than possible computer timing issues, which any modern car could have regardless.

Whoever decided car engines should shut down any time you stop at a red light needs to be put on one of those deportation flights to El Salvador.
