A federal prosecutor had to step in and delay the city's own report. Crowley sued Bass for retaliation. Her lawsuit helped expose the memo and get the cover-up in writing and show the world. The CEO she picked gave $2 million in contracts to her own husband's employer. Keep it in the family baby. When the agency's IT chief refused to delete emails Bass sent from her PERSONAL account, they fired her. When a second executive raised complaints, they fired her too. $800,000 in hush money to buy their silence. Staff were told their job was to "make the mayor look good." Karen Bass promised to fight corruption. Funny way to show it when three of her handpicked contractors have been indicted in six months. $20.6 million in "behested payments" to her Mayor's Fund from corporations with city contracts. Outside California they call that extortion. The unions that put her in office got the pay raises. The nonprofits that fund her allies got the contracts. She takes their money. They take yours. But ya let's make sure we tax the rich... City Controller Kenneth Mejia's fraud unit is the reason Alexander Soofer got caught. The dude who stole $23 million of public homelessness money and spent it on himself. Bass cut Mejia's budget. Then her appointees voted 9-2 to ABOLISH Mejia's elected office entirely. Replace the watchdog by a person handpicked by Bass, because her track record shows we can DEFINITELY trust her. This is how dictators work. This is how cover-ups happen. Bernie Sanders earns 3 to 5.5 times the average American worker. By his own logic, that is an outrage. Someone should propose a tax on senators who earn outrageous salaries. But here is what Sanders will never ask, because the answer destroys his entire framework: at what point does the ratio become immoral? Two times? Five? Three hundred fifty? He has no answer. Because the number is not the issue. It never was. The only question that matters is this: was the income earned by voluntary exchange or by force? A CEO whose pay is set by a board representing shareholders has earned every dollar -- or not -- but that is between him and those who chose to pay him. No third party is owed a justification. Sanders does not object to wealth. He objects to wealth he did not sanction. His is the ethics of the tollbooth collector: you may prosper, but only with his permission, and only to the degree he permits. That is not justice. That is the mentality of a ruler who mistakes his envy for a moral argument.

Let's talk about what @BernieSanders intentionally left out. These companies paid billions in payroll taxes, state taxes, property taxes, and excise taxes. Federal income tax is one tax, not the total tax bill. You know this. But because you are a corrupt looter, you pretend as if they pay no taxes at all so you can generate outrage, so you can loot even more. You have been in Congress for 35 years. Every single tax provision that allowed these companies to pay zero federal income tax was written, passed, and signed into law by the institution you have been a part of since 1991. You also left out that 40% of American households paid zero federal income tax in 2025. By your logic, they are not paying their "fair share" either. But you will never say that because your entire political career depends on pretending that only corporations benefit from the tax code you helped write, even though in reality no one benefits from them. These companies employ hundreds of thousands of Americans whose wages generate billions in individual income taxes. They produce the products and services your supporters use every single day. The car your followers want to drive was built by one of these companies. The flights they take are operated by another. The electricity powering their homes comes from another. You do not want tax reform. You want a shakedown. And you have been running it for 35 years.
