Meanwhile, many people from the South-East and South-South heavily embrace English names and Western identity markers. Yet somehow, Yorubas are the “white man’s slaves”? What’s even more ironic is how some Ibos get upset hearing Yoruba spoken freely in Lagos — Yoruba land itself. The contradiction is wild. At this point, it feels less like genuine criticism and more like projection, gaslighting, and an attempt to make Yorubas water down their identity while pushing Ibo identity to stay culturally relevant.
