Jahmyr Gibbs wins me my league on a meaningless carry in the 4th quarter of a game that doesn't impact the Lions playoff picture. Neil Degrasse Tyson will never know joy like this

@mbacarella @jbrucj It’s possible those 8 have zero opinion on the subway at all in which case they correctly did not raise their hands for either question.

American customer service is super attentive & friendly compared to Europe. I assume it's because of the whole tipping culture, as well as the fact the US is a more consumer-oriented society. Servers really go the extra mile to make sure customers are happy, which I enjoyed.

I'm European. I recently visited the USA for the first time since 2018, hitting up Las Vegas and New York City. What I witnessed left me stunned. 15 American oddities I still can't wrap my head around:

The job market is already bad. The jobs that exist ask for too much ( time , effort , skill ), and. they don't give enough back ( money ). Thousands of AI based lay offs are already happening , and in the next years 10's of millions, then 100's of millions. ( Those jobs will not come back ) . People will move in together, they will live in their cars, they will rent in WV, and other such areas. Govt will step in , probably 5 years too late, by which time many will be completely destitute, and many also will exit the world. We don't need AGI, for any of this to happen.. As it is , most jobs barely require any intelligence, and definitely not genius. The economy runs on people moving papers, and documents, and pretending to work. Our best hope is the AI Cooperative, and Communal living.

Sam Altman on what you need to do to survive in the age of artificial intelligence. "You are about to enter the greatest golden age of human possibility..." To thrive in that world, the skills that matter most are: - Deep familiarity with the tools - Staying abreast of changes - Developing a great intuition for AI tools, where things are going, and how to make use of it - Resilience and the ability to learn things fast and evolve yourself with technology I know most of this stuff is a pretty big no-brainer for anyone paying attention, but here's the takeaway: AI upskilling and keeping up with AI are possibly the most important skills in the world right now. And the most fascinating part is that new AI developments and tools come out so fast that everyone is constantly learning. I'd be willing to bet that if you're a complete beginner but spend 3 months of dedicated learning, you'd be fully caught up to power users. In other words: Spend 3 months learning → work 2-4x faster and future-proof yourself. There's so much opportunity for anyone who just starts now.

@nickgerli1 I imagine a lot of people are moving money out of savings accounts because they can get 5% interest in a high yield account. Really shouldn’t leave money in the crappy BofA 0.01% APR savings account - it’s highway robbery. move that junk to Vanguard and make 5%

Discover Financial, the 6th largest credit card issuer in America, just reported a massive spike in defaults. Their net charge-off rate - an indication of how many accounts are deemed as "uncollectable" - spiked to 5.7% in early 2024. The highest since the GFC. 📈

Last January, I noticed something peculiar in my 2yo’s bedroom that - after a year of obsessive reporting - led me to a profound cosmic revelation about what’s even possible in our universe. A 🧵.

ios17 Safari "removes tracking from URLs as you browse in Private browsing" - So `gclid` and `utm_` params are automatically removed from URLs before the browser makes the request? Is there any more official word on this? youtu.be/GYkq9Rgoj8E?t=…

@shailesh17 @etrade 😅Looks like the file is on E*Trade’s servers! Someone should tell them there’s a pretty sizable initiative to ban TikTok due to privacy and media influence concerns right? Also, not great to load any 3rd party tags in an admin. I get it for marketing pages but this is admin!!

🤔 Debugging @etrade website cause I can't upload a transfer file and I see "tiktok ola category is undefined" console logs. Maybe I'm glad that upload didn't work after all?
