@wyshynski So a plan with no equity between teams - Seattle with 75 points isn't eliminated, but New Jersey with 83 points is - is the GOLD standard? How much has gold been devalued? The NHL's system is fine. They also have channels to challenge anti-competitive behaviour outside of this.

@ExtraLars When you put up big points you also need to keep the puck out (goalie issues or not) and if you don't, you're perceived as cheating the game for offense. We SEE him play; we know - but arguments are there. Also the Oilers in any other division are a wild card team and that hurts.

I genuinely don’t understand how McDavid is considered third (or even fourth) in projections for the Hart. What would be the criteria that would make the Hockey Writers vote for other players? I’m curious to know your thoughts.🧐

@theaceofspaeder Realistically what you propose does just move the goalpost and retain the exact same problem with less area. This is a strike by the rules and technically always has been. Once we've all adapted to the precision of ABS, it will just be commonplace.

Re: all of the meme accounts, as I've had enought of you today. You are too narrow-minded to realize that what I am challenging here is not the "fringe factor." So to say that a ball that is 50.00001% outside of the zone would cause the same debate is an obtuse misunderstanding of the point being made. This is about the reasonable expectation that a called strike should be a hittable pitched ball. The reason a pitched ball is called a strike is because the pitched ball could otherwise be reasonably hit into play. The reason a pitched ball is called a ball is because the pitched ball could otherwise not reasonably be hit into play. You are so wrapped up in this precise automation that you fail to realize that I am talking about actually playing the game. In order for baseball to exist, the ball has to be able to be struck, and when you are given those strikes all around the zone, it won't be. No more meme accounts for me today. Have a good one, you guys. Enjoy reddit this weekend.

@joshuakloke I am going to tell you how this works, Joshua - because as Leaf fans we know how this gypsy curse works. The Leafs just eke it out and manage to place 5th. We'll feel relief and some hope. And then the team in 6th or 7th will win the lottery and bump us to 6th. You're welcome.

As of this morning, there is now a three-way tied for fifth-worst points percentage in the NHL. Leafs-Panthers tomorrow night could help decide which team finishes bottom five and could also help determine whether the Leafs keep their first round pick.

@KwnStorm For the Leafs the temptation to get Verhoeff and finally draft a legitimate top pair D for the first time since the 70s sure is appealing. But McKenna has adjusted in the NCAA and is lighting it up - it would be foolish to pass on his talent.

If Leafs somehow lucked into the 1st OA spot, what do they do? Draft McKenna? Trade to 2nd or 3rd and draft a stud D + all the assets you got back from the first trade? I feel like drafting McKenna is the smart play but we’re in need of a stud, no. 1 D man.

@GinoHard_ Perry is an ass but everything he's doing right now is laying the ground work for a possible playoff match up. Getting wifi's attention, getting Lane's attention - it's hoping to draw penalties from one and intimidate the other. He's done it for 3 centuries now.

@YoYoNancy11 @Pedring6100 @itsdraisteam Those are all good players. Casting those names off as though they were nobody who could just score 50 is a bad argument. The 80s weren't some time when everyone was putting up 80 goals and 160 points. 3 players have scored 80 or more and 2 have had 160 points or more in history.

@EnderSword @worldhockeyrpt No, I gave specific examples of the tasks she should be participating in. I'm sorry that you only wish to address a portion of the requirements I think should be met to be a qualified candidate. We can disagree but while she knows hockey, she hasn't run it long enough.

@stopeatingfaces @worldhockeyrpt I mean, your ability to weigh in on it is already gone since you said 'let her be an AGM first' and didn't know she IS an AGM. And then to further destroy that, the most popular GMs paths are from Player Development and Player Personnel. It's ok for you to just not know

@EnderSword @worldhockeyrpt Yes but primarily in the area of player development. The role of GM has a much larger scope that I'm not sure she's been in front of, even as coached. Ultimately if they feel she's a potential leader she should be groomed as such and I don't that opportunity has been presented.

@WatchMyReview @OverDrive1050 Twitter has some good ideas but it mostly supplies bad ones. I may hate the end result but from a process perspective, I'd prefer they go through a more analytical process to filter the initial candidates rather than someone's gut or just a board member's friend's kid.

@JFreshHockey Prior to Orr I can't really think of a dominant defenseman. Doug Harvey? Red Kelly? The forwards were pretty varied in the 60s, too - Howe sort of owned the 50s, but the 60s were Hull, Mikita, Beliveau - maybe Keon. Plante was probably the goalie before Dryden for years.

With all our conversations about generational players, etc. I thought it might be interesting to go back and think about who was generally considered to be the top player at each position going back to 1970. This isn't about who /was/ best that year, but what the consensus was.

@Trnt_Ca @Leafssssss88 If you look at xG% over the years, you can see the Berube effect. Marner didn't make it better. This is a coaching and GM thing. 2017 50.13 (16th) 2018 54.79 (13) 2019 51.18 (12) 2020 54.89 (2) 2021 55.24 (3) 2022 53.54 (7) 2023 52.62 (11) 2024 48.52 (23) 2025 46.28 (29)

@NHL_Watcher Bourne is a good analyst. The Sabres are an excellent team but outside of Tage, who is really elite? Lots of emerging young talent, too - but right _now_, it's not their forwards that distinctly have made them rise to a top 5 team.

@SportsnetSpec Corporate cowardice. He's saying what his bosses want him to say not what he should say. For other Leaf fans in this thread, this has nothing to do with the Oilers and everything to do with the Leafs' organizational incompetence.

@JasonGregor The basic thing here is that teams currently play a style that is motivated to get their point. Were it either of a 3-2-1 or 2-0-0 style, it would change the dynamics of play which is good but it does make the comparison to current standings a little invalid.

I see some being upset NYI has 40 wins but are out of playoffs. They only have 26 regulation wins. If NHL had 3-2-1 format the East would be: BUF 132 CAR 128 TBL 128 OTT 117 BOS 115 PIT 115 MTL 115 CBJ 114 NYI 111 DET 111 The same two teams would be out. OTT would be higher.
