@jogamedev I think if you give a somewhat decent bit of content in the free part it should theoretically be the most consumer friendly model. I got about a 33% conversion from download to buy idk if that's good or not but I was happy doing freemium.

Gamedevs who have published on the App Store: Is it better to do Freemium (free to try) or Premium (pay up front) I see a lot of games for free with an in app purchase for the full game, but it doesn't feel right.

@jogamedev Smart. After going from premium to free to try, sales halved and ratings went from 4.4 to a 3.7. You can never go back in mobile so I hope 🙏 to help a few devs

@CodeRed_dev Indie just doesn't have a clear or broadly useful definition in the industry anymore. Even as you say A and AA provides a better dilineation for team size.

I don't why AA devs pretend like they are Indie. A studio of 30 ex Ubisoft developers and 30 million in funding and a guy in his basement, they are totally the same.

@aeterponis I honestly wonder if it actually even works. Do a large amount of players really care if a game was solo developed? I see more devs claiming solo dev that don't magically get a successful game cos of it.

"Zero budget" and "solo developer" are fast becoming the biggest marketing scams on Reddit. Recently saw a guy posting a huge sob story about negative comments, crying about how his "tiny team" made their game with absolutely zero funding. The hilarious part? They’re partnered with one of the biggest publishers in Turkey. It’s an FMV game (meaning they literally paid a cast of actors), and I've personally seen their massive, obviously paid ad campaigns blasted all over gaming media. It’s crazy how many studios milk the "underdog" lie for sympathy upvotes. You’ll see "solo devs" posting "Look at what I made all by myself!" when there’s secretly a full 20-person studio working behind the scenes just to manipulate the algorithm. Honestly, I can't even be that mad at them. The tactic clearly works, and they're making bank off the illusion. Just remember: half the "starving indies" you see going viral are just playing a character.

@nogal909 if you have an "art team" you aren't a solo dev in my book but it doesn't really matter, it's lowkey a bit disgusting how we see this right to call yourself a "solo dev" as something desireable/aspiring solo dev-ing is at best a choice, at worst a curse not a blessing

any time the "me the solodev and my team" thing happens anywhere it's pretty funny but also a bit sad we shouldn't witch-hunt after anybody but it's definitely good to be critical of this trend either way, remember to give credits folks

@JonasTyroller For me, making it feel less of a set constant uphill. Like "I complete this handcrafted level and now I have 101 to go that each will probably get even harder than the last". I like into the breach, it plays like roguelike but actually tickles the puzzle part of my brain.
