Election day is here. And I would like to share some of my final thoughts : As a med student who saw so many  batchmates and seniors getting addicted to drugs because of the easier availability in recent years. As a friend who can't do anything to help them come out of that, who was forced to see many of them ending up in a place where they got heavily affected psychologically and phsyically losing years of education, family support and peace, etc.,. Later, as a doctor who saw endless number of college students, school kids ending up in road traffic accidents, ending up assaulting people around them under the influence of drugs. As a doctor who had to be with so many of them and was traumatized by their tantrum episodes. As a doctor who saw the helpless situation of their family members. I had to see all these every now and then and I couldn't do anything much sometimes...also many times I had to see the slow death of the victims of rtas. Many medicos, seniors who are in the current chain, if they are honest will definitely know that there is a never seen before rise in drug culture in tamilnadu in recent years and the most affected are mainly youths. Just when I thought this might be the case only in some places...I learnt that things are even worse than whatever I saw in the so called major cities like Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tirunelveli and so many other places too. This rise in drug culture is an alarming issue which should be taken care as soon as possible. But the government which is in rule, which should have been responsible actively allowed this to happen, the supporters and workers of the party actively participated in this disaster and made sure drugs become easily available to each and everyone especially the younger generation starting from school kids to college going adults. And what we are seeing now is the slow and silent death of an entire younger generation which is the hope of many families, entire community and growth of our state. A generation that should have been more energetic, interactive, politically assertive and socially responsible is slowly falling prey to this culture. And the most painful part is this will only worsen the already ongoing social and political issues in our state like the violence against women, caste based violence and rowdyism. It will get worse. Youths under the influence of these drugs will only become violent enablers very easily. I want all of you to care about these issues happening on ground and focus on reality. With this happening around, the parties even during the election campaigns use factors like caste based politics, alcohol, drugs supply and money to manipulate the masses to make them vote for them.  When the situation is hopeless and most of the parties here don't seem to actually even think about bringing a change, care about these issues and people welfare...we are seeing a party which for most part actively avoided and broke this long standing harmful trend of manipulating masses with these unhealthy factors...we are seeing a party which is held together and supported by a young generation and many that thinks out of this box beyond all the caste politics, money, alcohol and drugs and hopes for a change. This itself is ground breaking in my opinion and again if not for anything I want to see people come together and put a full stop to this rule whose members and supporters actively participated, endorsed and was responsible for this rise in drug culture ending many lives and even worse making many youths non-functional. This issue can completely destroy all the immense potential and the future of the younger generation. I want you all once again to think wisely, think wisely not only for yourself but also for the kids, younger adults, your whole community and the state. Vote with care. Be a responsible elderly adult, be honest to your cause, take a wise decision. I repeat, this is a very important election for all of us. #VoteforChange

I have been standing in the queue for over an hour, and only about 4–5 voters have been able to vote so far in my line at Neelankarai, Booth No. 282. This delay is discouraging and may affect voter turnout.
