Quake turns 30 today. 🎉
Three decades later, you can still dig into the source code that helped shape modern game engines, multiplayer networking, and modding communities. 🎮

@github 30 years ago, i'd come home from school and log on to 207.0.168.4 every single day. it's funny how i remember an IP address of a server from 30 years ago...
@github Most people have no idea how revolutionary releasing this source code to the world was and what it did for the entire online gaming community as a whole.
How time flies. In '93-94, TWC was rolling out the FSN network, first commercial digital set top boxes, built from SGI Indy chassis, QAM and QPSK modem cards.
@ID_AA_Carmack was there on the project, he'd often be seen in the break room at lunchtime, playing MTG with a group. WoTC had gifted him a custom card, the .45 Auto. I wasn't one of the MTG players, but I did see it once.
John had quietly, informally released an IRIX build of Doom to the project teams.
@github Wild to think the client side prediction tricks in that netcode are still echoing in shooters shipping today. Carmack basically wrote the playbook for hiding 200ms of latency before broadband existed. Open sourcing it in 1999 was the real gift.
Still in beta, Polymarket already has best-in-class liquidity across virtually every category: pregame, futures, even in-play tennis. The depth is honestly absurd.
