When invested for the long term (10+ years), the XIRR doesn’t change significantly with market rises or falls. Movements in either direction tend to be gradual due to averaging over the extended period.

Almost a decade ago, my investment journey began with a strong focus on guaranteed returns. I consistently invested nearly 1 lakh in PPF each year during the first week of April. However, as I gained a deeper understanding of the importance of inflation-adjusted returns, my approach shifted. I reduced my contributions to PPF, now making only the minimum deposit of 500 Rupees to keep the account active. Whenever possible, I withdrew funds from my PPF to invest in alternative assets that provide better inflation-adjusted returns. My mindset has transformed from seeking guaranteed returns every year to prioritizing inflation-adjusted returns over the long term. The enclosed image illustrates the decline in PPF interest rates over the past 25 years, showing a significant 42% drop in returns.

Life has to be lived along the way, not just at the end & there has to be a balance. Most people after 45 including me, start listening to their heart a little more, irrespective of what the investment advisor says. After all, today is the youngest we’ll ever be.

@jpgandhi Are you traveling for the first time on Indian Railways? The train operator or onboard ticket examiner doesn’t update train running status individually to each person. If you are interested, there are plenty of websites that provide this information.

Currently, I am en route to Salem from Chennai aboard the Vande Bharat Express, train number 20643. Following our departure from Jolarpettai, the train has maintained a speed of approximately 38 km/h for the past hour. Regrettably, there has been no communication regarding this delay from either the train operator or the onboard ticket examiners. This situation is quite concerning. Do you believe it is possible to obtain clarification from Indian Railways authorities regarding such matters? In many other nations, a refund of ticket charges would typically be offered under similar circumstances. This experience with the Vande Bharat Express is rather disappointing. @railcomplaint @RailMinIndia

Wealth is always relative — to geography and lifestyle. The figure itself is meaningless. What matters is whether your corpus can fund the life you want, where you want.

Bangalore homes not unaffordable. Home buyers will get their chance as prices will be subdued going forwad. Meet the measured Sunil Pareek of Assetz Group. IT layoffs not having major impact as it accounts for 35% of economy. Hyderabad is competition. Chennai is silent mover.

Have been in equity markets since 1977. Almost 50 years. Nice to see people born in this Century calling me a 'Retarted investor'. Thank God my portfolio didn't hear that comment.

@100Life_Lessons Well yeah - I am fat. Will probably be starting Ozempic once I am back from the trip. 😁 I would argue it is worth it even for a single trip.

@ActusDei @ravisaraogi For many people in IT, retiring ~40 is no longer a choice — it’s being forced. One only needs enough equity exposure to support retirement years; however, some people, allocate more to equity than necessary & then struggle to handle the volatility during bear/correction phases.

Is your dream of early retirement getting erased by this war? We are doing a webinar with @ravisaraogi to find out. A column he wrote in Mint argues that beyond a point, equity actually HURTS the portfolio. But why? Register here to know: share.google/zSKrlPgYJNxcYx…

@ActusDei Only matters if you spend in USD. Resident Indians measure wealth in rupees. By USD logic, salary, house, and FDs also “lost value.” That’s not erosion — currency movement.

@ActusDei @PuranikIra Most importantly, given how health insurers & hospitals often work closely these days, it’s safer to have 2 separate policies. If one claim/policy gets rejected, it won’t impact the other person’s coverage.

Should you add your spouse to your health insurance policy. @PuranikIra writes generally, no! It gets priced for the riskier partner. Better to have seperate ones. thefynprint.com/0BRj4JYqk

@ActusDei @PosteAnil Most BAFs have inconsisistant allocation strategies across market cycles. Opaque decision making on when & how allocation is changed.Often underperforming simple equity-debt combinations. Based on past returns & category flexibility on paper, they are preferred by the crowd.

Nifty 5 yr CAGR in USD drops to just 5.2% half of S&P 500. NRIs have seen huge value erosion. Resident Indians have too, they just don't know it. Out of sight, out of mind type of thing. share.google/uPAHxnszKnA60I…
