Day 1 of the Clean Energy Incubation Program Development Workshop at Safari Park Hotel was an intensive and collaborative success! Partners from @kcauniversity , @ACTSNET , @YouthFund_Ke and @IDRC_CRDI joined forces to address the structural gaps such as fragmented approaches and limited regulatory alignment,that often hinder clean energy SMEs in Kenya. Day 1's Strategic Milestones: A New Vision for Incubation: @carolineNtara (KCA) and @mourinechep (ACTS) set the stage by reflecting on past lessons to build a more resilient, evidence-based program. The 8-Month Entrepreneur Journey: The session moved beyond theory to map out specific phases, milestones, and outcomes that will guide enterprises from student-led ideas to scale-ready businesses. Curriculum Co-Development: Teams engaged in deep-dive working sessions to create tailored modules focusing on technical validation, financing, and market access. Digital Transformation: A standout "Expert Talk" by Erick Odipo (Silicon Overdrive) highlighted the power of AI and Cloud Computing in optimizing energy monitoring and driving data-driven growth. By the end of the day, the team consolidated a structured curriculum that ensures "who should be doing how much of what by when" is no longer a question, but a clear roadmap for our entrepreneurs. 🌱 Strengthening Local Agriculture through Collaboration and Policy Today, we paid a courtesy call to Minister Wilfred Mwenda Kiara, CECM, and Chief Officer Benson Ndung’u, CECM for Agriculture @KiambuCountyGov where we discussed the Lari Horticultural Farmers’ Cooperative Society (LHFCS), the county’s first horticulture cooperative focused on vegetable farming. The cooperative recently commissioned a cold chain facility that not only reduces post-harvest losses but also provides a sustainable business model for farmers. Our discussions explored strategies to optimize cold chain operations, expand market access to better align production with demand and ensure farmers earn fair and stable incomes while growing their market presence. We also discussed the importance of strengthening irrigation systems and building farmers’ capacity through targeted training and ongoing engagement with extension officers. In addition, we examined opportunities for public private partnerships to further support and scale the cooperative’s impact. This initiative highlights the critical role of policy support and stakeholder collaboration in driving sustainable development within local communities. #coldchain #foodsecurity #postharvestloss @AFNS_ACTS

📣 Attention Climate Adaptation Researchers in Africa! 🌍 The Call for Applications for the Adaptation Research Alliance (ARA) Emerging Adaptation Professionals Knowledge Catalyst Fellowship (March – August 2026) is now open! The Adaptation Research Alliance (ARA), in collaboration with the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) is inviting applications for the Emerging Adaptation Professionals (EAP) Knowledge Catalyst Fellowship, hosted by the ACTS Pathways Academy @PathwaysACTS. This six-month Fellowship is designed to strengthen and elevate African research on climate adaptation and resilience, with a clear pathway to contributing to the IPCC AR7 Working Group II process on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation. If you are a postgraduate student, PhD candidate, postdoc, early-career researcher (within 5 years post-PhD), adjunct faculty or climate adaptation practitioner working in Africa, you are encouraged to apply. Fellowship Streams: 🔹 Cohort 1 – For researchers with draft manuscripts that can be completed within four months. Fellows will receive structured mentorship to bring their work to publication in peer-reviewed or open-access outlets. 🔹 Cohort 2 – For researchers with manuscripts already accepted for publication who require financial support for professional editing and/or publication fees. 🔹Synthesis teams working across geographies or disciplines are also welcome. Tutorial fellows, adjunct faculty and lecturers seeking time off teaching to focus on manuscript development may also apply and will be compensated for up to three months. 👩🏾‍💻 👨🏾‍💻 Fellows Will Gain: • Mentorship from adaptation experts • Strengthened academic and non-academic writing and science communication skills • Financial support for editing, publication, and translation to English • Enhanced research visibility on ARA and ACTS platforms • A fully funded physical Tracking, Learning & Sharing Workshop • Access to long-term peer and mentor networks across Africa and beyond Non-English-speaking applicants are encouraged to apply.
