‘They are punishing those being threatened because police don’t want to protect them.’ Former FA director Simon Johnson calls Aston Villa’s decision to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv fans a ‘shameful’ example of ‘mob rule'.

The optics of the #AstonVilla ban are truly appalling. How can it be that there is enough policing every weekend to maintain public safety when tens of thousands of pro-Palestinian supporters gather, but there isn’t when it’s maybe a 1000 Maccabi fans on the one night an Israeli club is playing in Britain?

’Two people were killed at a PSG victory parade, I don’t see them calling for French fans to be banned?’ @HenryRiley1 says it’s ‘incomprehensible’ that Israeli football fans aren’t welcome in the UK.

@TomSwarbrick1 The caller Sean was pretty much spot on! LBC is part of the problem because you play Farage round the clock for ratings instead of giving fair hearings of all parties. Therefore LBC fans racism for money. Good work LBC.

The Metropolitan police shielded genocide-denying counter-protesters today, while arresting more than 30 people holding signs in support of Palestine Action. One officer - who let around 10 people infiltrate and disrupt a Defend Our Juries action in London - told Novara Media he wouldn’t intervene because “it’s a free country”, while other officers dragged peaceful protesters away. An hour into the action, only genocide deniers were left standing under the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Parliament Square. Police formed a line to protect them. Meanwhile, thousands of people took to the streets in central London as part of the regular national march for Palestine to protest Israel’s ongoing genocide. Palestine Action was proscribed as a terrorist organisation under UK law on 5 July. Membership of or support for the group is now a criminal offence punishable by up to 14 years in prison.

LATEST: Campaign group Defend Our Juries has said no arrests were made of 11 activists which held signs saying "I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action." It comes after 86 arrests were made across the UK last weekend, and one yesterday in Glasgow for holding similar signs

@NIAbbot Birthday jingle for Mr Walsh tonight! x.com/Slash/status/1…
Slash@Slash

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOE WALSH - Here’s to the wildman who sold Jimmy Page his inconic “Number 1” Les Paul and injected life into the Eagles when they needed it dearly. Operating out of Detroit in the early days, Walsh had been looking to put a band together ever since he had gotten out of college. Forming the foundation for the James Gang, Walsh got the opportunity of a lifetime when opening for The Who on one of their American tours, having already spawned a massive hit with ‘Funk #49’. The world took notice. When Joe Walsh joined the Eagles in December 1975, they were already a well-established band. But then again, he was also a well-established solo star. Something clicked. Walsh helped restructure the Eagles, bringing a gritty rock edge to a group best known for laid-back, country-rock music. His first album with the Eagles, 1976’s Hotel California, became one of the best-selling in history. One of the most notorious partiers in rock n’ roll history (up there with Keith Moon), he let loose until he couldn’t anymore. Thankfully, Walsh is now completely sober and still touring to this day. 1. “In the City” 2. “Rocky Mountain Way” 3. “Life’s Been Good” (ft. Hiram Bullock) 4. “Turn to Stone” Enjoy
