What was the scandal? Who did it impact? Any particular journalists? Did it have to do with a book you've never mentioned but which has catalysed resignations, calls for Parliamentary inquiries, and front page stories? Maybe you should read it so you can find out more about what happened in the last decade of Labour politics?

I appreciate the intense interest in my column. For skeptics, why not agree on Red Cross and lawyer visits for the 9,000 Palestinian "security" prisoners? If you think these abuse allegations are false, such monitoring visits would be protective. So why not?

This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. We should be able to find common ground in opposing rape. Here's a gift link to the article: nytimes.com/2026/05/11/opi…

Unvarnished and unfiltered, Britain's pro-Israel establishment at full throttle. Another exhibit for the genocide museum.
Tim Shipman@ShippersUnbound

Again, opposing Islamist terrorists is not racism. I am opposed to the practitioners and advocates of extremism nihilistic political Islam. Polling shows a very significant proportion of British Muslims sympathises with them and it’s equally repellent to me that you seem happy to count yourself among them. Israel is an amazing start up nation which is one of the leading tech centres on the planet. It has given far more to the world than Palestine. And British Jews are hugely industrious and massive financial contributors. They don’t harbour people who would blow us up. These things matter to some of us when choosing sides. Do I like how Netanyahu has handled it? Of course not. Much of it is disgusting. But I don’t find it difficult to think my interests and those of my country are better aligned to Israel’s than to a people who have repeatedly been offered a state and have made perfect the enemy of the good. Arafat’s decision to reject a state based on 97% of what he wanted is the single worst political decision made anywhere in the world in my lifetime. I suspect you are too young to remember that but it’s my formative experience on this issue and it was a self inflicted tragedy. Your formative experience is looking at TikTok and thinking war is hell. It is. But if there had been TikTok in the Second World War you’d have lost your shit about that too

Credit to @NickKristof for getting this published in @nytimes. This is the first time I've seen the use of dogs to rape Palestinian prisoners reported in mainstream western media. /1

Today marks four years since my aunt, Shireen Abu Akleh, was killed by an Israeli sniper in Jenin. An iconic journalist, and one of the most empathetic and sweetest people. This is who they killed. She loved life, but they stole hers from her.

🎬 BBC-Commissioned Gaza Documentary Wins BAFTA After Network Refused to Air It “Gaza: Doctors Under Attack” — a documentary about Israeli strikes on Palestinian health workers — won the BAFTA award for best current affairs program Sunday, despite the BBC refusing to broadcast the film it commissioned, citing “impartiality concerns.” Channel 4 ultimately aired the documentary after the BBC dropped it. Director Ramita Navai used her acceptance speech to call out the decision.
Assal Rad@AssalRad

The documentary @BBCNews dropped, Gaza: Doctors Under Attack, won a BAFTA award. Ramita Navai: “the BBC paid for and refused to show, but we refused to be silenced and censored.” Silence and censorship is not journalism, the BBC is engaging in genocide denial.
