@CustomHester Arguably Oakland was the last city to lose its only (remaining) Big 4 franchise when the A’s left town in 2024. Of course, Oakland specializes in losing franchises, so perhaps not the best comparison.

Doing some research for my next column and identified the last city to lose its only Big 4 professional sports franchise. It was Hartford, Conn. Hartford also is keeping company with #Portland at the bottom of many economic rankings. Probably not a city you want to copy. #RipCity

I loved Robert Duvall in EVERYTHING he did but my absolute favorite that NO ONE talks about was as "Sonny" in "The Apostle". Absolutely massively incredible acting job. He was the best. I will miss him.

I literally have no idea who this guy is, for instance. But he’s important enough to hang on the wall outside the Oregon Senate.

One of the curious results of the Oregon Capitol renovation is that all the labels have disappeared from the portraits. Not even a name, much less an explanation as to why this fellow is standing on the beach or why that other guy is sitting by a river with a medical bag. #orpol

The importance of a good editor: Waiting in the drive-thru, I saw an employee finish up the message on this sign. A manager opened a door and called out: “It’s supposed to say ‘Closed on Christmas.’” A subtle but important difference.

I love how Eugene's neighborhood associations, which are kinda/sorta part of city government, have to post an official agenda for their summer picnics. After the chair bangs the gavel down following Agenda Item 1, there must be absolutely no socializing during the concert. #orpol
