You may be right about us being at an impasse here. It seems at least that we’ve come to some agreement that there’s probably good reason, at least in part, for Iran to resent or even hate us due to our history there. Where we disagree is in where you seem to believe that that’s less relevant than the fact that they have some religious mandate that would somehow be there even without that history. I think that’s a pretty hard case to make, my friend. Additionally, I see Iran’s actions over the last many years as being the actions of a rational state actor. You believe there’s a special sort of radical suicidalism almost such that they’re just itching to go down in a blaze of glory if only they could blow up Israel with a nuke. Again, I think that’s a pretty hard case to make my friend. (I mean, the current president was elected on a reformist platform that expressly SOUGHT better relations with the West) In the end, I believe you’re a sincere guy, which is why I’ve continued to engage. Iran admitted to having 60% enriched uranium, that isn’t quite yet weapons grade, but it’s definitely enough for a dirty bomb, and it doesn’t take long to get that to the right enrichment to make nuke. So why have the 60%? That’s way beyond what is required for civilian and commercial use. As soon as it became nuclear grade, it would’ve been used. It would’ve been used in 1979 if they had it, and it would’ve been used today. Let’s focus on your Pearl Harbor comment. (We can debate if Roosevelt knew ahead of time about the attack and let it happen to be able to enter the war) Do you think if japan was chanting death to America openly, and/or if we knew at that time they were close to finishing a devastating weapon, that we wouldn’t have attacked them first? Of course we would have. But I will hammer home my major point. The leaders of Iran believed in an ideology that meant the destruction of the west, in its most radical form. Religious fanaticism trumps all other forms of government or mindset. So if they were allowed to have a nuke, that fanaticism would have guaranteed they used it, on Israel, and on us. And then they would’ve used whatever they had left on the Sunni Muslims, because they hate them about as much as they hate us.
